Maryann who enjoys the confidence of your rector, staff and parishioners who have met her while visitng GTS, brings

This week I've been aware of a personal desire to be a better listener.
I wonder why?
Maybe it's because of spring and all the new sounds in the air or because I'm still enjoying the reverberations of a nearly silent retreat on a New England farm last weekend. Maybe it's because I've been interviewing candidates to be our new music director, listening carefully to them and their recordings and references. Maybe it's because it's Lent and I'm trying to bring my hearing more closely to the Spirit. Maybe it's because our Vestry is meeting soon and I'm listening to their wisdom. Maybe it's because I'm usually so darn noisy, and listening affords me some peace from my own ruminations!
Whatever the cause, this fresh listening feels good. I suspect it feels good because it is good. It's relational and healthy.
The German pastor and thinker Dietrich Bonhoeffer puts it this way
...What we owe one another involves listening. Just as our love of God involves listening to God's word, the beginning of loving action is learning to listen. We do God's work for our brothers and sisters when we learn to listen to them.
As we bring ourselves to Lent, may we renew the loving action of listening.
Blessings,

Baptism is the full initiation by water and the Holy Spirit into the Body of Christ, the Church, and is the way we enter a covenant relationship with God as Christians and how we acknowledge our adoption into the family of God.
The Saturday evening Easter Vigil is a traditional time of baptism in the Church that stretches back to the earliest days of
Christianity. If you are an adult and have not been baptized yet and would like to be baptized, please contact the Rev. Holly Hoffmann or the Rev. Tim Boggs so we can make arrangements for your baptism this Easter season. If you are interested in being a part of the adult and teen Confirmation class that will be offered this summer and are not yet baptized, this is excellent opportunity to be baptized and embark on this next part of your spiritual journey.

On April 16, we'll be discussing "Bad Blood: Secrets and Lies in a Silicon Valley Startup," by John Carreyrou. This title is a departure for the book group as it is only available in hardcover. Nonesuch likely has the hardcover in stock, as it's still a bestseller. I would prefer not to order multiple copies at this time because several members are using other sources. A copy can be ordered online, as an e-book, or through inter-library loan..allow a little bit of time if you choose this last method. If you have any questions about this, do not hesitate to contact me for help. .
A riveting story of the biggest corporate fraud since Enron, a tale of ambition and hubris set amid the bold promises of Silicon Valley.
For next book discussion, I hope we pick a book with a short title
