The Prayer Shawls are then available to our parish to be taken and given away to other parishioners, family members, or friends in need.

We had a terrific Vestry meeting on Tuesday evening. Everyone was there and we heard creative and stimulating reports from committee chairs, your officers and clergy, and together we made with joy constructive choices that will be good for the parish. We even applauded aloud our work and that of our committees. All that was good, but...

I realized on Wednesday morning, the best thing about our October Vestry meeting was that we began and ended in thanks. ...first, with our grateful prayers to God for all that we've been given, and then at the end, we volunteered to call those of St. Alban's whom we thank each month for their special efforts in this good place.

Gratitude.

The writer of the Gospel of Luke has been telling us this season about the connection between thanks-giving and faith. It seems that the sort of faith Jesus invites his disciplines (and us!) to know and live into, starts and ends in gratitude. Those who wake into each day with an appreciation of the grace found in all that we've been given, somehow begin the day with a genuine connection to God. By reaching out in gratitude first, we're invited to lay a foundation for the faith that sustains.

For some of you, this may seem obvious, but I've been reminded of it anew...I'm seeing it freshly in our Gospel, and I'm watching for it my life. I wanted to let you know!

Before each dinner my young grand nieces and nephews are asked by their parents, "What are you thankful for today?" It may seem a simple, even juvenile, question, but it is also a empowering posture toward all the challenges of life and faith. A posture that is life-altering.  I thank your Vestry for modeling this good news...and I hope to keep it up myself. Join me?

Our short Stewardship Season!

This past Sunday your Stewardship Committee will begin distributing personalized pledge packets for our 2020 commitments to the life of this good place. Please pick up yours!

This year we ask, how can each of us honor the saints of our lives as we pledge our gifts of time, talent, and treasure to St. Alban's for 2020?

You can pledge online here. It's easy and confidential!

We are grateful for the ongoing and generous contributions to our parish family in support of all the good works of St. Alban's ministries.

Wilderness Esacape

Our PLACE Rotation #2:  Wilderness Escape!
October's rotation for the 1st-4th graders is titled "Wilderness Escape!"  The Exodus is important to teach children because it begins the great story: the redemption of all humanity. It is a story that lays the groundwork of the rest of the Old and New Testaments, of God's call for us to follow. We will focus on the lesser taught but still vitally important "rest of the story" that occurs between the parting of the Red Sea and the giving of the Ten Commandments: the Bitter Waters of Marah, Manna and Quail, and Water from the Rock. Fun activities include creating a Sinai Wanderings Sand Art Bottle in Thou Art, Marching through the Wilderness in Bible Skills & Games, and a puppet presentation using an innovative Square Stage format in St. Alban's Playhouse.
