Dear Friends,

Wisconsin has come a long way.  Back in 2010, CEO Magazine ranked our state in the bottom 10 for business.  Seven years later and the same magazine has us in the top ten!  CEO Magazine states our location and business-friendly atmosphere has led to our rise!

Wisconsin is also getting high marks for working moms.   WalletHub ranks  us as the 13th best state on their list of  the Best & Worst States for Working Moms.  The nation is catching on to Wisconsin's success stories.

On May 20th, I will be holding listening sessions throughout the 8th Senate District.  Please see below for the time and locations.  I look forward to hearing from you!

As always, if you have any ideas on how to improve our great state, including how to improve the budget, please do not hesitate to contact me at or 608-266-5830.

Teacher Appreciation Week

Have you thanked a teacher this week?

I'm happy to report both houses of the Legislature unanimously approved my resolution to declare this week as Teacher Appreciation Week in Wisconsin.

I took a moment to honor one of my favorite teachers growing up, Sister Bertradine. She was a huge influence on my life.  Click on the picture above to watch a video of how Sister Bertradine encouraged me when I was in school.

911 Modernization

This week, the budget-writing Joint Committee on Finance unanimously approved to modernize and digitize Wisconsin's 911 Network.  When completed, the new, all-digital, fiber network 911 system will be able to handle voice, text, pictures, and videos.

I'm proud to support the motion by State Senator Sheila Harsdorf of River Falls and State Representative Mary Felzkowski of Irma.  Thanks to their efforts, Wisconsin will have a safer and more reliable 911 system.

Stay Tuned!
Today, I taped segments for UpFront with Mike Gousha and Wisconsin Public Television's Here and Now with Frederica Freyberg. Check your local listings!
