March is Women's History Month
Sojourner Truth
Born Isabella Baumfree, she grew up as an enslaved woman in New York. She escaped in 1862, a year before Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation. She became a Methodist in 1843 and, on June 1 of that year, heard a clear call from God to become a traveling preacher speaking out against slavery. With call came a new name from God — Sojourner Truth.

Lenten Small Groups begin this Sunday, March 6th

Experience Good Friday from the perspectives of those who watched Jesus in his final hours. Jews and Romans, friends and strangers, the powerful and the powerless, the hopeful and the despairing. Discover how each Gospel has its own story to tell and all the witnesses have their own memories. See how these witnesses link to contemporary issues including the criminal justice system, capital punishment, military service, blended families, and issues of conscience. The witnesses at the Crucifixion watch Jesus, and we watch with them and we watch them. And we come away transformed.
Small Groups will meet for six weeks to explore the book and video Witness at the Cross by Dr. Amy-Jill Levine. Meeting times are Sundays at 11:10 am (facilitated by Ron Yarger), Mondays at noon, and Wednesdays at 7:30 pm (facilitated by Pastor Sharon). Sunday and Monday groups will meet both in-person (masked) in the Asbury Room and on Zoom. The Wednesday group will meet on Zoom only.
Books are available for purchase at cokesbury.com and amazon.com. Wherever you may be on your faith journey, we encourage you to connect with fellow pilgrims for study, prayer, conversation, and community.
For further information or to receive the Zoom information contact Associate Pastor Sharon Yarger at scyarger@optonline.net.
