The picture above is of our Chatham UMC lit up in orange for National Gun Violence Awareness Day in 2021. Beginning tonight and through this weekend, our church will once again turn orange in support of ending gun violence.

Thousands of Brands, Media Partners, Non-Profit Partners, Municipalities, Buildings and Landmarks including the Borough of Chatham and the United Methodist Board of Church and Society have endorsed Friday, June 3, 2022 as

National Gun Violence Awareness Day and this weekend as Wear Orange Weekend, and encourage supporters to wear orange on Friday, June 3rd, among other actions.

During the last Sunday's worship service, we received the following requests for prayers...

  • For those who lost lives in gun violence and war.
  • On this Memorial Day weekend, we pray for families who still grieve loved ones who have died in wars. Comfort them. Bless them. Send your healing touch to them.

RISE-color.jpg

Dear Friends,

We have 9 youth and 4 adults who will represent Chatham UMC on this year’s RISE mission trip. We are sending two teams that will help make homes safer, warmer and drier in northern Appalachia. This is the 41st year of sending teams from Chatham UMC. It has been a mutual blessing for those who are giving and receiving for every youth and adult who have participated in this vital ministry.

We are in need of some serious fundraising support. We need to raise over $9,000 each year to send two teams to RISE for a week. If you would like to support this ministry, click on the Make a Donation below and you will be directed to our website donation page. Please choose RISE Youth to input your tax deductible contribution. Checks can also be made payable to CUMC, and earmarked RISE 2022. Thank you!

Ministry Opportunity at CUMC!

The Staff Parish Relations Committee is looking to hire a Director of Christian Education and Youth Ministry. This is a part time job of 25-27 hours per week, with salary commensurate with experience. The SPRC would also entertain the separation of these roles and the hiring of someone who is solely interested in serving as Youth Ministries Coordinator for 10-12 hours per week.

Please feel free to share this opportunity with anyone you believe may be interested in this position and becoming a part of the new thing that God is doing here at CUMC!

Chatham UMC has begun an effort to collect funds and then distribute those donations as reparations each time the congregation sings a Spiritual during the Sunday service. Early American Black Hymns and Spiritual Songs whose authors were not recorded never received the payment that they deserved when their music was published. This effort on their behalf is a small, but powerful, way to honor their enormously important contributions to the lexicon of hymnody. CUMC will soon send our first donation to the Newark Boys Chorus School. Our efforts in this manner will be ongoing.

Our program season will soon finish until the Fall. We will thank our musicians, artists, and educators on Sunday, June 12th with Music, Arts, and Education Sunday. Thank you to all of our musicians throughout our year for making each Sunday special with your music, art, and teaching!
