Rise Against Hunger!
Thank you for supporting last year's Rise Against Hunger Packing Event. Allocating your time to give to others this way is a truly selfless act. As I said last year, thank you for seeing the need and heeding the call to help. Providing food for the hungry is a significant responsibility.
This year, we have two additional opportunities to help. AJ needs six people to sign up to help set up and six people to clean up. Please consider helping in this way when you register! The other important way you can help would be to help raise the additional $500 needed to meet the $4,000 cost of this program.
The registration form has a place for you to make a donation of any size. Thank you for joining us and spread the word; it will certainly be another joyful AJ event!
Beth Shapiro, Director of Programming and New Initiatives

Mercaz…Did you cast your vote?
The World Zionist Congress and its affiliates provide millions of dollars in funding and support programs that enrich your community and Jewish life in the U.S. Voting is now open to select delegates for the new Congress. Casting your vote for MERCAZ USA is an investment in the future of the Jewish institutions at the heart of our communities. This funding includes Israel education at Ramah summer camps, programming at our congregation, and critical philanthropy efforts supporting hostage families, the global diaspora, and more. Any Jewish adult over 18 who resides permanently in the U.S. and did not vote in the last Knesset election is eligible to vote for MERCAZ USA in the World Zionist Congress elections.
It’s critical that we don’t let extremist voices limit the voice of the conservative movement, including our work on environmental and climate initiatives at the WZO. Vote here: votemercazusa.org and select slate #17 MERCAZ USA. Voting closes on May 4 and
no preregistration or organizational membership is required beforehand.

Shabbat Luncheon Speaker Ran Shaham, "We Were Two"
Saturday, April 19, at 12:15 PM
On Shabbat of April 19, we will mark the last day of Passover in the sanctuary at 9:30 AM in a service that includes Hallel and Yizkor with choir and organ accompaniment. The service is followed by a Passover luncheon by registration. An opportunity has just come our way which was not in previous announcements or newsletters. After lunch we will hear from Ran Shaham, an Israeli whose brother was killed in a military operation. He explains his presentation as follows: “I title the lecture as “We Were Two,” which delves into my story of losing my beloved elder brother, Shani, during his military service. I was only 15 at the time of the tragic event, and will share the story of the family and Shani, details of what happened on September 3, 1985, and the complexities of coping with the new circumstances as a bereaved family." You can learn more here and RSVP using the April Online Service Registration Form.

Join us in the Orleans Auditorium to help pack food for the food-insecure! We have space for 40 to 80 people, of any age. There will be water and light snacks available to eat outside of the packing room. All ages, including preschool, and all abilities, including people using wheelchairs, are welcome. There is a variety of work to do for everyone! Feel free to bring canned goods to donate to a local Jewish pantry. Donations are welcomed. Click here to register.

Jewsday Night at the Movies: Code Name: Ayalon*
Tuesday, April 29 at 7:30 PM
Come together as a community with Jewsday Night at the Movies! Once a month, we will come together at 7:30 PM to watch a Jewishly-inspired movie. We’ll start by watching a film (popcorn included) and finish the evening with a discussion or Q & A led by Rav Shai. This month's film is Code Name: Ayalon* and Rav Shai is bringing Laurel Fairworth, producer of the documentary, to AJ. Code Name: Ayalon is the tale of 45 teenagers who toiled underground secretly manufacturing and smuggling the bullets used by freedom fighters on the front lines during Israel’s War of Independence. You can find out more about the movie and register here.
*The film originally scheduled was Golda but the opportunity to have Laurel Fairworth join us was too good to pass up!

Eagles Fans!
Rav Hazzan Glantz is creating one of the best kippot that a Philadelphian can have! You can obtain a one-of-a-kind green suede yarmulke with an Eagles emblem, and stamped inside with “Fly Eagles Fly!” (in Hebrew and in English) and “Super Bowl Champions!” Choose the name by which you wish to be identified. Hebrew or English, nickname, or formal name, and Rav Hazzan will add it to the kippah. It’s in your hands and then it’s on your head. No donation is required, but they will be graciously accepted. These funds will help make possible the same kind of kippah prize when the next Philadelphia team takes home a national championship trophy. Contact Rav Hazzan at 215.635.7763, ext. 122, or hglantz@gmail.com.

AJ Space for Families
Stay and listen, stay and pray, stay and play.
| |
We have spaces for you to step out of the pews when you need a short break. In the back of the sanctuary you'll find a family corner with a bin of books and small toys. We've also created a new family space adjacent to the main lobby. This space is designed to give families with young children a place to stretch or take a break without going far from the sanctuary. We welcome your joy and encourage you to come to services with your whole family this year! We can’t do this without you!
We thank Groovy Hues for donating their time and materials to paint the room! Please consider calling them if you need house painters! See their business card below.
