Next Purim Rehearsal:
Tuesday, February 3 at 7:30 PM


This year's Purim shpiel will be an expanded version of the show we did last year with an addition of Purim songs before and after with the help of the group that came for
Hanukkah, The Singulars. All rehearsals will take place at 7:30 PM after minyan and run approximately 90 minutes. Remaining rehearsals: Thursday, February 12; Wednesday, February 18; Wednesday, February 25; and Saturday, February 28 (dress rehearsal after Shabbat). Adult Ed Evening Session with Rav Shai Cherry, PhD: 
"Jews and Slavery" 

Thursday, February 5 at 7:30 PM, at AJ and Via Zoom


There are two kinds of slaves according to the Hebrew Bible — Hebrew slaves and gentile slaves. This session will look at some of the differences and their legal developments according to the Talmud. We’ll conclude with a brief discussion of Jewish involvement in the slave trade. Cost: No charge. Adult Education: A Visit to the Weitzman Museum: Playing Both Sides

Sunday, February 8 at 10:00 AM


Jews fought on both sides of the United States Civil War. The Weitzman Museum is hosting AJ for a special tour to look at Jewish involvement in the Civil War on both sides of the Mason-Dixon line. This trip will be complemented by a learning session with Rav Shai on the evening of February 5 at 7:30 PM and a Brunch ‘n Learn with Dr. Melissa Klapper on Sunday, March 1 at 10:00 AM. Dr. Klapper will be discussing a wartime diary of a Southern Jewess. These three sessions will give us three different lenses to examine Judaism, slavery, and the role of American Jews in the Civil War. Shabbat Dinner with AJ Friends

This is a new and exciting invitation for our AJ friends! Amy Rappaport and Marty Manson would be delighted to host individuals and couples aged 60-plus for an informal Shabbat Dinner on Friday evening, February 20 at 6:00 PM. With your support and participation, our goal is to welcome Shabbat with our AJ community once per month. The location of the February dinner is to be determined. Please join us for an evening of guaranteed camaraderie and fellowship. Hadassah Regional Shabbat

Please join us as Adath Jeshurun hosts Hadassah at a regional Shabbat on Friday, February 27 at 6:15 PM. On Shabbat Zachor, which falls on the Shabbat before Purim, we celebrate Hadassahs’ founding in 1912 and our deep ties to the Purium story. We reflect Purium’s heroine Queen Esther and the way our namesake (Hadassah is Esther‘s Hebrew name) inspired Hadassah founder, Henrietta Szold, as a woman of action. We welcome the members of Hadassah to volunteer for specific parts of the service these parts will be assigned prior to the service. Adath Jeshurun members are welcome to participate, as well. We look forward to seeing you at this beautiful service. Orange County Community Scholar Program (CSP)

Congregation Adath Jeshurun, dedicated to the Jewish value of learning for its own sake (Torah lishmah), has partnered with the Orange County Community Scholar Program (CSP)If you register and can’t attend, a link will be sent after the event to a recording. There is also an archive of classes that you can view here. You can see current classes here.


This February, CSP welcomes an exciting mix of new voices and returning favorites as they explore Jewish identity, meaning, and history through a variety of lenses. Speakers include Dr. Eyal Dujovny, Rana Werbin, and Dr. Katherine Aron Beller. We’re also delighted to welcome back beloved CSP presenters, Evgenia Kempinski (with a four-part series), Dr. Sharon Keller, Tobi Kahn, and Gila Levitan (with a two-part series). Join CSP online this February for programs that connect past and present, place and identity, and reveal how Jewish history is continually reimagined through culture, cities, and lived experience. The members program this month showcases Prof. Stephen Berk examines modern Italy through heroes, popes, villains, and rebirth (AJ member link for registration here). Do you love children? We have a wonderful opportunity for you! Join our Early Childhood Staff as a teacher or substitute teacher! Make some extra money and have fun doing it. All you would need are clearances and a desire to make a difference in a child’s day. Our Early Learning Center serves children from 3 months to 5 years of age.
