Kol Echad: A Traditional Egalitarian Minyan
Saturday, January 10 at 9:15 AM
You’re invited to join a lay-led, traditional egalitarian service being held at AJ. We’ll have a lot of kids at our service, and would love to see your children too! “Traditional egalitarian” means that we will use the traditional liturgy that you might find at an Orthodox synagogue (including the full Torah reading rather than a triennial cycle), but with women and men playing an equal part in leading and participating. There will be mixed seating (men and women sit together). We hope to create a space for soulful, authentic, spirited prayer. Join us 9:15 AM in the Braemer Auditorium at AJ. Click here to register.

Adult Ed Brunch ‘n Learn with Maestro Karl Middleman: Please Pass the Grits and Gefilte Fish: Jewish Contributions to the Harlem Renaissance
Sunday, January 25 at 10:00 AM
Maestro Karl Middleman, Founder and former Music Director of the Philadelphia Classical Symphony, will join us for his second presentation at AJ this year. Middleman will be offering his insights, wit, and musical talents to explore the contributions of Jews to the Harlem Renaissance. The jazz tradition expanded from its African-American origins to include the work of many famous Jewish composers and performers. With its speakeasies and dance halls, Harlem, as one of the northern cultural capitols of jazz, became a nexus of both racial-ethnic antagonism and cooperation, and a prototype for relations between Blacks and Jews in subsequent decades. The cost for the brunch and program is $10 for AJ members, and $18 for non-members. To register, click here by Monday, January 19.

Eagles Fans!
The World Series was fought out without The Phitin' Phils but there are still patches and red suede kippot ready to be personalized for you, your friends, or loved ones. The last of the stock in Eagles patches flew out the door after they dominated the Chiefs in the Super Bowl last year. Still the Birds are pounding forward at 6 and 2 and the next iteration of suede dark green Eagles kippot will sport a new patch as pictured. The arrangements are the same. No set donation, just let Rav Hazzan (hglantz@gmail.com) know if you wish for a name in Hebrew or English, he'll be in touch if clarification is needed and you will be able to show your Jewish team spirit in no time.
