AJ Adult Ed Brunch 'n Learn with Maestro Karl Middleman: Leonard Bernstein: American Idol — American Idealist and Passionate Jew

Sunday, December 7 at 10:00 AM (at AJ)

Jewish “influencers” in the arts and entertainment industry had a profound impact on the cultural identity of America throughout the twentieth century. On December 7, we'll welcome Maestro Karl Middleman, Founder and former Music Director of the Philadelphia Classical Symphony, in the first of two return visits this year. Maestro Middleman's multimedia presentations on Fiddler on the Roof delighted us last year. He'll be offering his insights, wit, and musical talents to explore “Leonard Bernstein — American Idol/American Idealist and Passionate Jew.” Whether composing for the concert stage, Broadway theater, or iconic motion pictures, Bernstein’s passion, charisma, and pure talent were unparalleled. His music, and his lifetime commitment to social justice causes, were heavily influenced by his intense connection to Judaism. Please click here to register. RSVPs must be received by Friday, November 28.

Food_Drive_CC image

Help your neighbors in need! Due to the decline of funding in the SNAP program, local food banks are asking for our help. Food pantries and relief agencies across the country are, more than ever, in need of food and supplies. The government shutdown amplified the need. AJ will have boxes in the upper and lower lobbies for the collection of both canned foods and toiletry items. Please consider buying extra canned food and toiletries the next time you go shopping and bring them with you to AJ. The drive will be ongoing. Thanks in advance.

Kippah-new-patch image

Eagles Fans!

The World Series was fought out without The Phitin' Phils but there are still patches and red suede kippot ready to be personalized for you, your friends, or loved ones. The last of the stock in Eagles patches flew out the door after they dominated the Chiefs in the Super Bowl last year. Still the Birds are pounding forward at 6 and 2 and the next iteration of suede dark green Eagles kippot will sport a new patch as pictured. The arrangements are the same. No set donation, just let Rav Hazzan (hglantz@gmail.com) know if you wish for a name in Hebrew or English, he'll be in touch if clarification is needed and you will be able to show your Jewish team spirit in no time.
