Westmoreland and the Weather

Winter is here. If it's snowing or icy, will the church be open? Here's what you need to know:

On weekdays, if the Montgomery County Schools are closed due to weather, the church office will be closed.

If there is inclement on Sunday, please check your email. A church-wide email will go out by 8:00 am.

Most importantly, use common sense. If church events are taking place (even if you are scheduled to usher or sing or host coffee hour) and you do not feel safe or comfortable making your way to church, please stay home.

The church office will be closed Monday and Tuesday, January 24 and 25.

Please be safe.

Video Announcements

Thanks to the snow, I've spent the past few days shoveling, taking naps, shoveling some more, and goofing around with my kids. Part of the goofing around has been making movies. So, click on the picture above for our weekly announcements in video form. The cartoons and narration are mine. The editing, the sound, and the editorial comments are the handiwork of my teenage son. Enjoy!

Piano Duo Benefit Concert with
Alejandro Hernandez-Valdez and Grace Cho
Sunday, January 31, 5:00pm, Sanctuary

This Sunday in worship, we will celebrate the baptism of Santiago, infant son of Alejandro Hernandez-Valdez and Grace Cho. To celebrate his birth Alejandro and Grace will play in the service and will present an evening concert of their favorite pieces inspired by children. The concert is free and open to the public. Your free-will donations will benefit the New Orchestra of Washington. A reception will follow.
George Singleton Celebration
Sunday, February 7

After 43 years of serving as the bass Soloist and Section Leader of the Westmoreland Choir, George Singleton is retiring. His last Sunday to sing in the choir will be February 7.  We will feature George in the service on that day and will celebrate George and Jane at a reception after church. The good news is that Jane and George will continue to be part of the Westmoreland congregation.  Jane will serve on the Beard of Spiritual Formation next year, and George continues his service on the Governance Council.  And George has offered to sing in services and for special occasions from time to time. Our love and thanks go out to George for his years of sharing and leading music with us.

Attendance Challenge

In his sermon on January 10, Rev. Tutt challenged the congregation to have worship attendance of 200 or more people for nine Sundays before June 12. (Last year, we had 200 or more people in attendance on six Sundays during that time period.) If we have nine Sundays with attendance of 200 or more, Rev. Tutt has offered the following exchange - He will let the middle and high schoolers "pie" him with nine pies at our summer picnic on June 12 and he will bake nine pies for the congregation to enjoy for dessert at the picnic.
