Westmoreland and the Weather
Winter is here. If it's snowing or icy, will the church be open? Here's what you need to know:
On weekdays, if the Montgomery County Schools are closed due to weather, the church office will be closed.
If there is inclement weather on a Sunday, please check your email. A church-wide email will go out by 8:00 am.
Most importantly, use common sense. If church events are taking place (even if you are scheduled to usher or sing or host coffee hour) and you do not feel safe or comfortable making your way to church, please stay home.
Please be safe.

 Attendance Challenge
In his sermon on January 10, Rev. Tutt challenged the congregation to have worship attendance of 200 or more people for nine Sundays before June 12. (Last year, we had 200 or more people in attendance on six Sundays during that time period.) If we have nine Sundays with attendance of 200 or more, Rev. Tutt has offered the following exchange - He will let the middle and high schoolers "pie" him with nine pies at our summer picnic on June 12 and he will bake nine pies for the congregation to enjoy for dessert at the picnic.

Sandwich Making for Martha's Table

 All hands on deck on Tuesday morning, in the Westmoreland Church kitchen for Martha's Table sandwich making. First-timers, children and grandchildren welcome. With enough help, it does not take much more than an hour.

Potluck for Virginia Residents
Saturday, February 27, 5:00pm
 All Virginia Westmoreland members and friends are invited to a potluck dinner at the home of Steve and Peggy Dyer on Saturday, February 27, 5 pm. Main courses of lasagna and ham will be provided. Chili Lunch
Sunday, February 28 after church
The Board of Membership and Fellowship invites the congregation to celebrate the end of winter with a chili potluck lunch. Please consider bringing your favorite meat or vegetarian chili in a crockpot and we'll make sure it stays warm! If you prefer, you can bring cornbread, salads, or "fixins" to accompany the chili.  One Great Hour of Sharing Collection
Sunday, February 28
On Sunday, February 28, Westmoreland's collection will benefit the United Church of Christ's One Great Hour of Sharing. This mission supports disaster relief, refugee/immigration efforts, and development ministries around the world. Our gifts will also support OGHS's programs in heathcare, education, agriculture, food sustainability, micro-financing, and women's empowerment.

Sign Up for Coffee Hour!
 Coffee Hour is a time to welcome guests and to strengthen relationships within our church community. This ministry is vital to the life, spirit, and growth of our church. Beverages (coffee, tea, water, juice/lemonade) and tableware are provided by Westmoreland. Food is a welcome addition and is provided by Coffee Hour Host(s). Please sign up to host coffee hour (once per year is recommended) with your family or pair-up with another member of the church.

Coffee hour hosts typically bring crackers & cheese, vegetables & hummus/dip, cookies/pastries, tortilla/pita chips, and salsa/guacamole. Hosts prepare and serve the food, bring empty dishes and food back into the kitchen, take left-overs home or to a food bank, and help Martell Galloway, our custodian, clean, dry, and put away dishes, as needed.

Children's Collection in February: Reading Glasses, Umbrellas & Hand Sanitizer
O
ur February Children's Collection will support the
Samaritan Ministry of Greater Washington, a Westmoreland Volunteer Corps host agency and Westmoreland Social Justice grant recipient. SMGW is a community partnership bringing together homeless people and others in need with support from churches to improve the lives of all. We will collect and donate the following for their clients:
- Reading glasses (all powers from +1 to +4 with case)
- Small folding umbrellas
- Pocket-sized bottles of hand sanitizer
