Happening Around Saint Rose
3RD GRADE PIONEER DAY

While reading Little House in the Big Woods, 3rd graders learned what life was like as pioneers. Students made and tasted butter and tried beef jerky and pork rinds like what Laura Ingalls might have eaten. They also engaged in activities that taught how to grind corn into corn meal, wash and iron clothes and saw many games children from that time period might have played. The Wood County Parks system supplied 3rd graders with many of the materials.

EIGHTH GRADE PBL: HOW DO WE HELP BUILD THE KINGDOM OF GOD?

As eighth graders studied the Catholic Social Justice Principles and explored the commitment they will make at Confirmation, they were challenged with the driving question of, "How do we help build the Kingdom of God?"

Small groups of students chose a social issue, researched the topic, interviewed experts in the field, created a driving question, planned and executed an action to address the issue, and then presented their activities to an adult panel who evaluated their presentation. This four-month long PBL (problem/project based learning) involved multiple tasks and skills and helped the students to address a topic for which they had a passion. This year's topics included Immigration, Bullying, Elderly, Disabilities, and COVID-19.
