On Tuesday, November 10, CCRA held its monthly board of directors meeting. If you would like to see what was discussed, as well as decisions from previous meetings, you can view the materials on our website.
To our new CCRA members: our board meetings are held every 2nd Tuesday of the month (except July and August). For now, our meetings are held via Zoom. All active members are invited. If you would like to attend our meetings, please notify Travis Oliver.

COVID Business Casualties
R.I.P Beloved Indie Venue Boot & Saddle
This is a tough one. Boot & Saddle has called it quits, yet another Coronavirus casualty. Rather than relate an all-too-familiar story, let’s hear the thoughts of Ben Vaughn, a regular B & S performer. “It was incredibly easy for magic to happen in that room”, says Vaughn. “The connection between th audience and the performers was immediate, with no warmup necessary. Very few venues have that, and the people could not have been nicer.” “A major loss.”
Also, Res Ipsa Cafe, located at 23rd and Walnut, has closed due to the effect off pandemic. On Instagram,the owners thanked it's patrons for their many years of service.
But some good news, Lost Bread Co.- an artisanal bakery and cafe, hosted by Alex Bois, a James Beard nominated pastry chef, will be moving into this space.

Leaf Recycling Program begins this week
The Streets Department’s annual Leaf Recycling Program returned on Monday, November 9th and will run through Saturday December 19th.

Trees lower urban air temperatures. Asphalt and concrete streets and parking lots increase urban temperatures and increase energy costs. Neighbors in a properly tree-shaded area pay reduced energy bills. It’s time to apply for a street tree! The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society plants free street trees twice a year and the deadline for the spring planting is at the end of November. Apply here.

Nov. 16 Blood Drive Sponsored by Church of the Holy Trinity
Looking to help out but not sure how? You could do worse than donating blood to the American Red Cross on Nov. 16 at the Church of the Holy Trinity at 1904 Walnut St. Not only would you be donating blood, but Holy Trinity will receive $10 for every pint of blood donated, which will go directly to the Church’s Curbside Care program which provides much-needed winter items. Free Admission to Vets and Blue Star Families
The Museum of the American Revolution will offer free admission to veterans, those currently serving in the military, and Blue Star Families, courtesy of Comcast NBCUniversal on Veterans Day Weekend, now thru Sunday, November 15. The Museum will honor veterans through a virtual lecture, pop-up talks and performances, take-and-make crafts.
The Museum is now open Thursdays through Sundays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Stories of the diverse range of people who served and sacrificed during the American Revolution are available anytime with the Museum’s free Virtual Museum Tour and Virtual Field Trip.

The Conservation Center for Art & Historic Artifacts invites you to our fall virtual Open House, from Monday, November 9, through Thursday, November 12. Each evening's presentation will include a behind-the-scenes video of projects currently in our lab and follow-up discussion from a panel of staff and experts. Featured objects will include items from the Edward Hopper House, the Free Library of Philadelphia, and the Philadelphia Masonic Temple Library & Museum. Love Your Park Day
Friends of Schuylkill River Park is participating in fall Love Your Park Day. Join volunteers on November 14, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. to plant bulbs, mulch trees and spiff up the park. Volunteers must wear masks and preregister here - https://www.fsrp.org/events. The group size is limited to 25. The park has been much loved at the same time that Parks and Recreation has cut back significantly on maintenance. Come out and give the park some much-needed TLC!
