Words to Ponder

"If you are the body and members of Christ, then it is your sacrament that is placed on the table of our Lord: it is the sacrament of yourself that you receive. To that which you are, you respond, 'Amen', and by responding, you assent to it. For you hear the words 'the Body of Christ', and respond, 'Amen'. Be, then, a member of the Body of Christ, so that your 'Amen' may be true.'

Share Your Input on Service Times
The pandemic season offered many opportunities to experiment with various components of our common life. Over the past year, we have tried gathering for worship at different times on Sunday morning. As we resume many of our pre-pandemic rhythms and routines, please share your preference for Sunday morning service times.
Establishing Sacred Ground in Beloved Community

Consider joining us to do this work in small groups in a program produced by the Episcopal Church called the Sacred Ground Dialogue Series.

Sacred Ground is a sensitive, prayerful resource that creates space for difficult but respectful and transformative dialogue on race and racism. This 10 part series will meet weekly on Tuesdays from 4 – 6 (time could vary), in the Barrett Room at St. Mary of the Hills. We will use the hybrid model so that we can offer the class in person and by Zoom.

If you are interested in joining this group please email Owene Courtney at
Altar Guild Volunteers

The Altar Guild continues to welcome new members, in a ministry of hospitality and preparation for worship each week. If you are interested in learning more or volunteering (summer, winter or full-time), please contact Sue Sweeting - or 828-406-9376.
All are welcome to join in this ministry!

Daily Morning Prayer

Morning Prayer is once again being offered each weekday, Monday-Friday, at 8:30AM in the Church. Masks and distancing continue to be required. All are welcome!
Flower Offering Opportunities

Is there an important person or a significant event happening in your life? Is there an upcoming birthday or anniversary you would like to honor? Sponsoring the flowers placed at the altar each week is a great way to offer thanks for life’s many gifts. Many dates are available for 2021. Please contact Greta Wilson, parish administrator, for more information and available dates.

Worship Update

Masks continue to be required for indoor services at St. Mary of the Hills.

As we adapt to new developments, there are two significant changes we are making at St. Mary of the Hills in the days ahead -

  • Registration is no longer required for any service of worship.
  • Seating will no longer be marked in the Church for services of worship. Please continue to sit with members of your own household and maintain three feet of distance between households while seated in the pews.

Live-streaming of Sunday services will continue via Zoom and YouTube. Links are included below and in a weekly e-mail each Sunday morning.
