Religious Education News
Unitarian Universalist Church of Canton

RE Mission
Our religious education program works
to create an accepting environment that empowers children and youth to explore their spirituality, celebrate diversity, and live our Unitarian Universalist values.
Family Ministry
We believe that families play a vital role in furthering this empowerment to explore and live our UU values. We are excited to support our families by offering ideas from the UUA's Tapestry of Faith program as well as graces and thought provoking questions related to the topics introduced during Sunday religious education classes. We hope you find this enjoyable and spiritually fulfilling for your whole family.
In RE Next Week
Our children and youth will attend the Holiday Pageant.  This year we will be celebrating Midwinter Festivals of Light.  We will be exploring the traditions of Hanukkah, Genitju, Kwanzaa, Winter Solstice, Christmas and more.   Check for details on our Facebook Page and website .

A Table Grace:
May God protect us from our foes,
Like candles from the past.
As Faith unites, and gives, and welds
The essence that will last.
To give and take,
And feel and love,
Is that which we must treasure.
The Faith in it shines brighter than
A mortal eye can measure.
~ Chanukah Message by Joseph L. Byron
A Chalice Lighting:
In time of darkness, we stumble toward the tiny flame.
In times of cold, we seek the warming fire.
In times of repression, we reach for the lamp of truth.
In times of loss, we pray for the comforting light.
In times of joy, we light a candle of celebration.
Spirit of Life, as we kindle this light, help us find what we need this day.
~ Brian Kelly

May the following deepen and inspire your faith during the week ahead.

Contemplation Topic  - During a shared meal with family or friends or as part of a contemplative practice, ponder the following - Pick a winter holiday. As you anticipate it's approach, what do you most look forward to?

Snowflakes - Our Spirit Play class heard the story "The Weight of a Snowflake".  Click here to watch a video and create some cool snowflakes.

Charles Dickens - Explore the life of the author of "A Christmas Carol" and much more. The story and its characters-Ebenezer Scrooge, Bob Crachit and Tiny Tim-defined the holiday's meaning for the English-speaking world as the regenerative spirit of generosity, or what Dickens called his "Carol philosophy."
