MSCR AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAMMING


The ski club and boys’ basketball are officially over. The boys did a wonderful job this past Saturday at the basketball tournament - a big shout-out to them!

Spring Sports are Coming up - ultimate frisbee, flag football, tennis, and track. If you are interested in joining a sport, please get in touch with Isis Hardy.

Schools of Hope is looking for community volunteers to tutor students at Jefferson. Please let Issis know if you are interested.

Born into slavery in Tennessee, Gillespie went on to secure voting rights for Black men in Wisconsin after being denied the right to vote in 1865. His case went to the U.S. Supreme Court, which ruled that Black men in Wisconsin had been entitled to the right to vote since 1849, according to the Wisconsin Historical Society.

The official name change will take place at the beginning of the 2023-24 school year.

Congratulations to the 10 Jefferson Band and Orchestra students who participated in the WSMA Solo & Ensemble Festival at Hamilton Middle School on February 18th. All students prepared a solo to perform for a judge and received high ratings. One student performed a high-school level piece and was awarded a 1* rating and will go on to compete in the State Solo & Ensemble Festival in April.

Felicitaciones a los 10 estudiantes de la Banda y Orquesta de Jefferson que participaron en el Festival WSMA Solo & Ensemble en la Escuela Intermedia Hamilton el 18 de febrero. Todos los estudiantes prepararon un solo para actuar ante un juez y recibieron altas calificaciones. Un estudiante interpretó una pieza de nivel de escuela secundaria y recibió una calificación de 1* y competirá en el Festival estatal de solistas y conjuntos en abril.
On February 28th, we hosted our 1st annual African American Community Night and dinner.  Nominated by teachers for excellence in academics, leadership, and improvement, students received Black Excellence Award plaques and t-shirts. It was great to see so many families come to celebrate their children.

GCMS (8th Grade Gaming, Coding, and Makerspace Class) is working with Project Lead The Way to construct simple gears while developing an understanding of Torque and Gear Ratio. Without instructions, they gathered materials and built their gear.

DM (8th Grade Digital Media) has been busy finalizing Jefferson’s annual yearbook. In addition, the students are using graphicart tablets to create beautiful masterpieces that will be displayed in the upstairs hallways.

Don’t Miss the Memorial High School Winter Musical!

Come enjoy an evening of music and dance from the 1930’s and 40’s! VPM’s Theater Department is presenting their winter musical, “The All Night Strut” at Memorial’s Auditorium on March 9-11, showtimes @7pm, with a 2pm matinee on the 11th. Tickets are on sale at the door: $12 adult, $10 senior citizens, $5 students. MMSD staff can attend free with an ID. If you love singing and dancing of the big band era, you are in for a treat! Come and support the students of VPM in this musical event!
