I hope you all are doing well and had a wonderful spring break but it's time to get back to business. For all the sports MSCR is offering, permission slips will go out today for students who are interested and they will have to turn those in to me by next Friday, which is the deadline for all sports. Just a reminder the sports that are going on are Flag Football, Track, Tennis, and Ultimate Frisbe.

Reminder: Students Need to Bring Their Chromebooks Home
As a reminder, all students will need to bring their chromebook home to engage in asynchronous learning. This learning will be every Monday now through June 5th. Also, please remember to have your student bring their device home this Friday as Monday, April 10th is a full day of asynchronous learning.

Update On Our New Cell Phone Policy Implemented on April 3
Starting after Spring Break, students must keep their cell phone in their locker or give the phone to a trusted adult at the beginning of the school day.
It’s almost been a week, and we are beginning to see a positive change in our school culture without the cell phone distraction.
We want to thank our students for their cooperation and our parents for their continued support,
Be sure to read the full policy here and discuss this with your student, especially if you know they might struggle with not having access to their phone all day.

Your student’s Quarter 4 report card is now available in the student/parent portal.

FORWARD EXAM INFORMATION
Each year, Wisconsin students in grades 3-8, and 10, participate in the state’s Forward Exam. Schools across the state must select a date from March 20 through April 28, 2023, to give the test. Our school is scheduled to take the Forward Exam the week of April 10th-April 14th.
The Forward Exam measures the knowledge and skills students should have for their grade level. The Exam tests students in the areas of English language arts (ELA); mathematics in grades 3-8; science in grades 4 and 8; and social studies in grades 4, 8, and 10. One or more subtests may be administered daily during our selected time frame. The results of these tests will be used to help school staff make determinations regarding curriculum, placement, and services to best support students.
Student performance on the assessment will not affect their grades. Please encourage students to take the test seriously, do the best they can, get a good night’s rest prior to the exam, and eat breakfast at school (remember, it’s free this year for all students). Students not in school on testing days will be scheduled for a make-up test prior to the close of the testing window.
State assessments, including the Forward Exam, are required by both State (Wis. Stat. § 118.30) and Federal (ESSA-Every Student Succeeds Act) Law. Additionally, the Forward Exam is given in person, with no virtual/remote options available. Students in Madison Promise will receive additional information about taking the test in person.
The Department of Public Instruction (DPI) has created a Forward Exam Information for Families brochure, which gives more information about the assessment. INFORMACIÓN DEL EXAMEN FORWARD
Cada año, los estudiantes de 3o a 8o y 10o grado de Wisconsin presentan el examen estatal Forward Exam. Las escuelas en todo el estado tienen que elegir una fecha entre el 20 de marzo y el 28 de abril de 2023 para administrar el examen. Nuestra escuela tiene programado administrar el Examen Forward la semana del 10-14 de abril.

Congratulations to the Jefferson Orchestra students who participated in the 56th Annual Strings Festival at Memorial High School on March 18th. It was so exciting to be back in person for the festival and to see so many talented students performing together.

Jefferson Middle School Benefits from Adopt-a-School Partnerships
The Madison Public Schools Foundation established its Adopt-a-School program in 2006 to provide another avenue for businesses and community organizations to support our schools.
Jefferson Middle School benefits tremendously from the commitment of its two Adopt-a-School partners: the Rotary Club of Madison West Middleton and Madison Church.
The Rotary Club established its Adopt-a-School partnership with Jefferson in 2015, and Madison Church in 2019. Over the years, both partners have invested significantly in the Jefferson community, providing volunteers, materials, and financial gifts.
The Rotary has helped to fund everything from the purchase of Chromebooks and a charging cart to covering the cost of buses for field trips and funding the school store. They have donated warm winter gear, school supplies, and even the new GaGa pit! Rotary volunteers have conducted Career Day interviews, served food at family picnics, helped with the Mad City Challenge, and helped teachers unpack and get settled following the Jefferson remodel.
Madison Church has focused on supporting the Jefferson community, hosting a variety of community events at Wexford Ridge Apartments and the Lussier Community Education Center (LCEC). Church members have donated hundreds of holiday gifts to the LCEC to be distributed to children, delivered groceries to Jefferson families at the height of the pandemic, and supported school supply drives. Madison Church donated 400 plastic, refillable water bottles to Jefferson, and recently hosted a movie and back to school night. In addition, Madison Church helped fund a staff meal last fall.
