Tomorrow, Friday, April 14, We Will Celebrate Spring with an Activity Day!  

What is Activity Day?  An all-school event where students join fun activities such as basketball, soccer, board games, etc.

Why? To build community, have fun, and share a common experience with all the Jefferson students!

We will be following a modified bell schedule. Please keep this in mind if you need to pick your student up early tomorrow.

The 7th graders will once again partake in the annual Mad City Challenge (MCC). The event will take place on May 18th and 19th. Each group will participate in the MCC one of the two days. The challenge is similar to the television show The Amazing Race, wherein each group is required to locate and document a previously selected item on display at various locations in and around downtown Madison as well as the UW-Madison campus. As the individual groups follow their self-determined routes throughout downtown, they will visit a number of sites, locate the object(s) as instructed, document their discovery, and then move on to their next location. 

Each group will be chaperoned by a Jefferson teacher or a vetted parent-volunteer. All groups will have selected their own Metro bus route to and from school, as well as the ordered route they will follow to ensure they meet as many of the targeted objects and locations within their given time frame. The object of the MCC is to be the first group back to school no earlier than 3pm, no later than 3:30pm, and with the most documented pieces of interest. The culminating activity is a celebratory pizza party at school once all groups return each day. 

This is a wonderful and exciting event as the students will have the opportunity to experience downtown Madison and the UW campus in person and on foot for the better part of the day. Please be on the lookout for the permission slip and parent-volunteer forms to be coming home shortly with your 7th graders. There is an associated cost for this event, which includes the cost of the Metro bus tickets, a MCC colored logo t-shirt, plus an ice cream snack at Bascom Hall on the UW campus. More information to follow as we get closer to the dates of the Mad CIty Challenge, the highlight of Jefferson's 7th grade school year.

Los alumnos de 7mo grado participarán una vez más en el Mad City Challenge (MCC) anual. El evento se llevará a cabo los días 18 y 19 de mayo. Cada grupo participará en el MCC uno de los dos días. El desafío es similar al programa de televisión The (Amazing Race), en el que se requiere que cada grupo localice y documente un elemento previamente seleccionado que se exhibe en varios lugares del centro de Madison y sus alrededores, así como en el campus de UW-Madison. The Shorewood Elementary PTO Chess Club is happy to announce that we will be hosting a chess tournament on April 23rd at Shorewood Elementary school, open to all K-12 Wisconsin students! If you have a youngster that is interested in chess, or even if they have very limited playing experience, they are highly encouraged to participate! Hosting tournaments in MMSD schools is a great way to build chess in Madison, and represent our diverse community!
