A Message from Pastor Mark | | |
Naples UCC Family,
Remember Mr. Rogers? Fred Rogers (who also doubled as an ordained Presbyterian minister) once shared a quote that is one of my favorites: "When I was a boy and would see scary things in the news, my mother would often say to me—look for the helpers."
Spiritually speaking, this wisdom makes much sense to me. For I often discover the love of God in people who are willing to help. As pastor of a congregation of helpers, I see this spirit in so many of you who call Naples UCC home.
Along these lines, I wanted to update the congregation about three gifts that I've made recently from my Pastor's Discretionary Fund. Thanks to the generosity of many congregants, I have been able to use this fund to help those in need. First, I made a gift to the families impacted by the Camp Mystic tragedy in Texas. This gift will directly bless families who are grieving. Second, we have been reading many stories in the news of late about human rights. One of our core values at Naples UCC is honoring the dignity of all people who have been created in the image of God. To this end, I have made a gift to an organization that works toward these goals. Finally, I made a gift to the Harry Chapin food bank. As many have been reading in the local news, this wonderful organization is desiring to meet even more needs despite challenges of funding.
For those who have made this giving possible, thank you. Let's keep looking for the helpers...
In Christ,
Pastor Mark
