A Message from Pastor Mark | |
Naples UCC Family,
On this Independence Day holiday, our congregation is scattered in numerous places. From Naples to Nantucket. From Marco Island to Michigan. Though we may not all be together, one of the shared experiences of Independence Day is fireworks. And no matter where you watch fireworks tonight, you can be sure that the show in the sky will end with a grand finale. Simply put, we are drawn to that which is spectacular.
At times, the presence of God can be found in the spectacular. But at other times, God meets us in that which is small or routine—our simple acts of service, our kindness, a gift, a small decision to include, a selfless favor for a friend... God can work, yes, in and through that which is simple. I look forward to saying more about this in my message on Sunday entitled "Faith Without All the Fireworks" (2 Kings 5: 1-14). And if you have friends or family visiting for the holiday weekend, be sure to bring them to worship as our music on Sunday is shaping up to be quite powerful.
Finally, on this holiday, I pray that we would all feel a sense of responsibility, humility, and gratitude for the ways God continues to be present for our nation and all nations.
Happy 4th!
Pastor Mark

If you are worshiping with us from home this Sunday, we invite you to prepare your communion elements in advance—a small piece of bread and a cup of juice or wine—to join us in the sacrament of Holy Communion. If you or someone you know would like to receive Communion at home, please contact Molly Baker at mbakerlex@gmail.com to make arrangements.
| | Our church campus will be closed today, Friday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day. If you have a pastoral emergency, please call (239) 261-5469. | | Last April, we embarked on a project to replace the electrical system of our organ. This project will enhance the quality of the instrument and give our organ an exciting future. A contract has been signed, and the project is a go! Thanks be to the generosity of our congregation, $117,203 has already been contributed toward this effort. We are in striking distance of our goal of $148,000! If you’d like to make a gift toward this cause, be sure to mark your check “organ fund” on the memo line. | |

Our Summer Book Club continues with a book titled By Any Other Name by Jodi Picoult. Moving between Elizabethan England and modern-day Manhattan, By Any Other Name is a beautifully written, compelling novel that explores the theme of identity and the ways in which two women, centuries apart, are both forced to hide behind another name.
We welcome all for a lively discussion, even if you have not read the book! Not in town? Please join us on Zoom.
