IFA Going On Offense In 2025

With the election behind us, IFA is focused on 2025 efforts to protect, enhance, and promote the franchise model by advancing policies in federal, state and local governments to support its growth.

Why it matters: While November’s results put some immediate regulatory concerns at bay, now is the time to both advocate for policies that will bolster franchise growth and provide long-term certainty while keeping a watchful eye on the potential of destructive policies that will move to the states and localities.

Senators Introduce Tax Credit Legislation

On December 2, U.S. Senators Bill Cassidy (R-LA) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH) introduced IFA-supported bipartisan legislation to improve and expand the Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC).

Dig Deeper: WOTC has been a vital federal resource for many franchise business owners that provide job opportunities to workers who have faced barriers to employment. 

The big picture: This pro-franchising bill is a direct result of IFA members traveling to Washington for September’s Advocacy Summit to meet with their lawmakers.

Minnesota Regulation Meets Fate Thursday

The Minneapolis City Council will vote this Thursday, December 5 to sustain or override Mayor Jacob Frey’s veto of the IFA-opposed Labor Standards Board (LSB) resolution.

What’s next: The five votes needed to sustain the veto hinge on swing council members Jamal Osman and Andrea Jenkins aligning with three reliable moderates.

Our thought bubble: To support the Mayor’s veto, the IFA-led Save Local Restaurants (SLR) coalition has placed a targeted ad in the Minnesota Spokesman-Recorder and gathered over 50 signatures in each ward of the city from local businesses and patrons.
