FORMATION AND FELLOWSHIP

All Ages Formation resumes Sunday morning at 9am as we gather to learn about our Prayer Book tradition of the Daily Office. Come to explore the ways Anglicans / Episcopalians pray daily all around the world. We'll explore the rich biblical poetry and see how a life steeped in Holy Scripture and prayer can transform us and the world. Bring a Book of Common Prayer if you have one, or borrow one of ours. We'll begin with learning about and praying Morning Prayer.

 ----------

The St. Andrew's Annual Meeting and Parish Breakfast will be Sunday, May 3 at 9 am. We will gather to celebrate our life in Christ at St. Andrew's, and the vestry will present the amended parish bylaws that bring us into conformity with the diocesan canons. Exciting stuff! Additionally, we will offer a time of reflection on how God might call you to share your gifts with the church as we continue to grow in our mission to love and serve God and our neighbors as our selves. Please RSVP

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Donations for Laundry Love: It’s that time again! Spring is in the air (along with all that pollen), and people need clean clothes. St. Andrew’s will be hosting Laundry Love on Thursday, April 16, at 5:30 p.m., at the Soaps and Suds Laundromat on Colley Avenue. At that time, we will provide guests with detergent, dryer sheets, snacks, and a $10 prepaid card to use for the washers and dryers. It’s a simple way to love and serve our neighbors.

Here are some ways that you can support this meaningful ministry:

  • Donate dryer sheets (detergent is provided to us, free of charge, by the national Laundry Love organization (laundrylove.org).
  • Donate prepackaged snacks (crackers, cookies, PF Goldfish, anything portable that our guests can take with them when they leave).
  • Donate a $15 gift card to a local business such as Food Lion, Hardee’s, Subway, etc.
  • Donate money. We try to provide 100 ten-dollar prepaid laundry cards each time we host. St. Andrew’s hosts 6 months each year, so that’s $6,000 that comes from various church funds. But those funds aren’t limitless. We welcome donations designated specifically for “Laundry Love.”
  •  Join us at the Soaps and Suds! We spend about 45 minutes there distributing laundry cards and snacks and getting to know some of those neighbors who rely on our help. It might seem chaotic (and it often is), but we’re providing a service that is much appreciated.

----------

Our Blood Drive is April 29: Please join us on Wednesday, April 29 from 1– 6 p.m. to help someone you will never know have a better life. Who says there are no more heroes? Who says there are no miracles? Give some blood, have a nosh, socialize with other heroes – you will be a member of a very special group. Please visit RedCrossBlood.org and enter GHENT to make an appointment.

----------

Coffee Hour Hosts: We are in need of coffee hour hosts this spring. It never needs to be anything elaborate, basically a baked or bought treat or two, coffee, juice, and water. If you are willing to provide the cookies and juice, and act as host one Sunday, please consider signing up. Or join forces with a friend and share the effort! Sign up online.

Join our Creation Care team! Do you ever get frustrated about all the non-biodegradable stuff that winds up in the landfills you can't recyle? Stuff like: beauty product packaging; pens, pencils & markers; contact lenses; plastic straws; etc. We are hoping to join a diocesan project with TerraCycle to collect these items and take them to bins at Church of the Ascension. We need your help to educate the parish about what can and can't be recycled, collect the items here at St. Andrew's, and transport them to Ascension. Anyone who would like to participate, please call Jim Gwathmey at (540) 422-3677 or email him at james.gwathmey@gmail.com. This would be a great way for youth to get community service hours and adults to help care for God's creation!
