 St. Teresa of Calcutta
Dear Parents,

The 20th Anniversary Celebrated on Saturday evening was a great success!  What a wonderful evening for our past and present community to come together to celebrate 20 years of excellence in education where we Encounter Christ, Empower Students, and Engage Community. What a gift our parents, students, families, faculty, staff, and clergy are to Queen of Angels Catholic School – genuinely allowing us to fulfill the mission of Catholic education.

This commemorative event also “kicks-off” the 2019-2020 Annual Fund, a campaign that is associated with every school funded by tuition.    With  last year’s overwhelming parent participation rate,  we continue to be optimistic we will be at   100%!    Please pledge today.   I know your child(ren) will tell you about the   coveted  Out of Uniform Pass for parents completing their pledge by September 27th!

Be sure to mark your calendar for the   first HSA General Meeting   on   September 25th at 6:30 pm .  The speaker we have contracted with, Dr. Danielle Jones Zareie, will explore a critical topic for parents focused on the effects of social media on your children.

The staff at Picture Perfect asked me to send a reminder that school photos are due to go offline at midnight on Wednesday, September 11th, this is your final opportunity to order pictures online.

I will send a reminder that we will be testing the Parent Alert system this week on Wednesday, September 11th (change of date from the 12th).   This feature of RenWeb allows the school to send voice, text-to-speech, email, and text message alerts in the event of an impromptu school closing or school emergency (Parents have the option to choose the type of notification through their account.). In previous years, parents, when seeing the alert message, immediately call the school.   We are TESTING this system to ensure you are receiving notification in the event of an actual emergency. I would ask that you listen/read the message before placing a call to the school.

God Bless,
Dr. Jamie Arthur
Catholic Identity: Defining Characteristics Survey
As part of the continuous improvement process, all schools in the Archdiocese of Atlanta participate in the Catholic Identity Survey . Maintaining and strengthening our Catholic identity is at the heart of the mission of the Catholic Church for education and that of Queen of Angels. The survey is brief and provides feedback to Queen of Angels Catholic School that is used to assist in planning.  I ask that you take a few minutes to complete the survey.

Partnering with Parents
The relationship between home and school is critical and at Queen of Angels we are continuing to look for ways to partner with parents to support our students and families This year we are hosting a three- part series to address the impact of technology and media on students from Kindergarten to grade 8.

The topic for Part 1 of the series will be the Psychological and Emotional Effects of Social Media presented by Danielle Jones Zareie Ed.C, LAPC, NCC and Director of Happy Hearts Counseling.

Please join the HSA and the QA administration at the HSA Fall Meeting, Wednesday, September 25th at 6:30 pm. Due to the nature of the presentation, we recommend this most important discussion be open to parents only.

The Musical Theatre Workshop Experience
The goal for this club is to give students in grades 6-8, who are serious about working to the best of their abilities on a performing team and who desire to develop their acting and singing skills in a creative environment, an opportunity to learn more about the art of Stagecraft within the framework of a major musical play. This experiential learning will take place at first, within a structured classroom space and later, on the stage space, a place of opportunity to think “outside the box.” After several weeks of observing each student as they practice scripted material and performance basics, each member will be assigned a role to portray in our Queen of Angels production of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, Jr to be performed on Friday, March 27th at 7:00pm.

The workshop is limited to the first 35 students in grades 6-8 who sign up.

From The STREAM Lab
STREAM Lab Supplies

We are having a great year in the STREAM Lab, but we could use some more recycled supplies. If you have any clean disposable or used materials that we may be able to use for a project, please send them in to Mrs. Panjwani. Items may include fabric scraps, paper towel rolls, empty spools, newspapers, coffee cans, pop-up drink tops, marbles, small toy cars, egg cartons, styrofoam, buttons, metal washers, packing materials, old board game pieces, etc. There is limited storage space, so please send reasonably sized items. Thank you!
Future City

If you would like to learn more about Future Cities, please join us for an informational meeting on Thursday, September 12 at 3:30 in the STREAM lab. The club is available to 7th and 8th graders. We are still looking for parent coaches if you or someone you know is interested.
LEGO Robotics

Lego Robotics will have a meeting for 5th-8th grade students and their parents on Wednesday, September 11 at 3:30 in the STREAM lab. We will discuss basic information about the club, time commitment, and the competition.
