Weekly Highlights
Free Clothing Distribution

On Monday, members of the Larchmont/Mamaroneck Community Coalition held a free clothing distribution at St. Thomas, using clothes that had been sorted, organized, sized and prepared for sale by our tireless Thrift Shop volunteers in pre-COVID days.

Over 125 people were able to take home those clothes for their families. The need for clothing has skyrocketed in the past few months as the effects of COVID-19 have impacted the already vulnerable members of our community.

Ella Chin, a recent Mamaroneck High School graduate and St. Thomas neighbor, has organized similar “street shops” for the community in the past few years, and she partnered with coalition member Sasha Nahr to make this event happen.
Chalk arrows marked pathways on the blacktop and socially distanced waiting spots in line. Community volunteers helped to set up and break down the event and monitored flow and social distancing.

Everyone was patient and good-tempered, despite the oppressive heat.

The entire community is so grateful to St. Thomas for partnering with other organizations and for sharing so generously the thrift shop inventory. The coalition is eager to partner with us again and additionally stands ready to re-stock the thrift shop when they are able to safely re-open.

What a wonderful way to strengthen our community ties while fulfilling our mission to be Christ’s hands and feet in the world.

Thanks to all!
