St. Thomas partnered with The Community Coalition to host a Street Store this past Saturday. Clients were identified through social workers and given a time slot to come and choose much needed fall and winter clothing. Many St. Thomas parishioners volunteered---here is the thank you and report from the Street Store Leadership Team:
We want to express our deepest gratitude to all of the leaders, donors and volunteers who made this weekend’s Street Store such a huge success. We organized, sorted and transported approximately 200 bags of used clothing and shoes. We served 86 families representing a total of 197 adults and 162 children - 359 people who received much needed clothing. And we avoided using plastic bags and kept all those clothes and shoes out of landfills which in turn benefits our environment.
We also want to acknowledge the strength, resilience and humble gratitude of our clients. It is not easy to ask for help, and many whom we serve live strong; independent lives that have been interrupted by this pandemic. Needing help can be uncomfortable and disorienting for our hardworking neighbors. Despite that, they came with grace and smiles. Together, we will all push through these challenging times.
We are considering running another Street Store in the early spring. To accomplish that work, our goal is to have a leadership committee with equal representation of volunteers and clients. Many whom we serve want to help as much as they want to receive. If you are interested in being involved in future leadership, please contact us at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
