Sleep Depravation in Youth & Adolescents

Both the National Sleep Foundation and the American Academy of Sleep Medicine agree that teens need between 8 and 10 hours of sleep per night. Getting this recommended amount of sleep can help teens maintain their physical health, emotional well-being, and school performance. Unfortunately, the majority live with moderate to severe chronic sleep depravation, with over 55% of middle school students and 70% of high school students not receiving the sleep they need. The resources highlighted below offer some insight into the scope of the issue and how school health partners can raise awareness and offer support.
