Summer Learning Opportunities for Boys

NIGHT SEDER

ENDING THE SCHOOL YEAR STRONG

During the transition period between the end of the school year and the start of camp, the Kollel hosted a special Night Seder program for middle and high school boys. The boys enjoyed either learning in the Beis Medrash or participating in engaging classes on the lower level with Rabbi Meir Bier, Rabbi Avi Greenberg, and Rabbi Mordechai Weis, followed each evening by a fleishig buffet.

We are grateful for the opportunity to provide a meaningful Torah environment during this unique time of year and look forward to offering similar programs in the future.

Shechita Demonstration

with Rabbi Zvi Holland

This past Sunday, The Philadelphia Community Kollel was privileged to host a fascinating Shechita Demonstration led by Rabbi Zvi Holland of Star-K, who traveled from Baltimore to provide a comprehensive, hands-on presentation of the halachos and practical aspects of shechita.

Participants learned the proper shechita process and the internal examinations required to determine kashrus. The demonstration included the shechita and examination of a lamb and several chickens, bringing the learning to life in a powerful and memorable way.

We are grateful to Yeshiva Ketana of Philadelphia for hosting the event, and to Rabbi Yehoshua Schechter, Rabbi Yehuda Waintman, and Rabbi Yosef Franklin for coordinating the many details that made it possible. We would also like to extend a special thank you to Jesse Lapin for his assistance throughout the program.

A special thank you to David and Talia for sponsoring the program. The event was David's vision, created to benefit the many Daf Yomi learners currently studying Maseches Chullin and to bring the Gemara to life through firsthand experience. At the same time, it provided a unique educational opportunity for the broader community to gain a deeper appreciation of the halachos of shechita and kashrus.

The tremendous turnout and enthusiasm highlighted the community's appreciation for practical, hands-on Torah learning.
