Census 2020 – Your Voice Counts
The next national census is in April 2020. Every 10 years, the federal government must count each and every person living in the country. It doesn’t matter what your citizenship status is, how old you are, or if you have had trouble with the law. Making sure you and your family are counted is one of the most powerful things you can do to support your community and shape your future.

The national census is so important to our democracy that it is required by the U.S. Constitution. It is how we make sure everyone has equal representation in government and everyone gets their fair share of resources.

Join San Mateo County: Everyone Counts + Bay Area Counts 2020 texting campaign by pledging to complete the 2020 Census survey. Text the start word  COUNT  to  650-200-2743 , and you can opt-in to receive timely information such as local events happening near you, or a reminder to complete the survey.

San Mateo 101 Express Lanes Project Update
U.S. 101 from Whipple Avenue to I-380 in San Mateo County will soon be under construction to complete the SM 101 Express Lanes Project. Construction and testing is currently scheduled to last until late 2022. It will require freeway lane closures between 9 pm and 5:30 am (Sunday-Thursday) . Our goal is to avoid project-related freeway delays before 9 PM and after 6 AM. However, with these closures, expect delays potentially over 25 minutes from 9 PM to 1:30 AM and below 15 minutes from 1:30 AM – 6 AM.

Travelers will be able to see real-time traffic conditions from changeable message signs placed in the construction zone. The Smart Traffic System is being implemented during construction to provide up to date information, improve safety, and reduce congestion.

Cal Water plans to replace the water main on eastbound Santa Cruz Avenue between Olive Street and Orange/Avy Avenue. The replacement project is expected to start in mid-February and end by June 2020 .

To prepare for the pipe installation and make necessary connections to residential properties, the roadway will need to be reduced to one-lane using traffic control with flaggers. During the pipe installation, the roadway will need to be completely closed for approximately 4-6 weeks.
