Welcome, Sydney!

Wishing a warm welcome to Sydney Barrett, Straughan's newest Environmental Planner!

Here are a few fun questions to get to know Sydney:

Where did you work before here?

I worked for Maryland Environmental Service as an Operator-in-Training at their wastewater/water treatment plant in Jessup, MD.

What are you excited about?

I am excited to meet and work with everyone at Straughan.

What led you to this career?

Growing up I always enjoyed being outside and being around nature. I want to ensure others can experience nature and all it has to offer.

Are you a cat person or a dog person?

I am a cat and dog person.

Would you rather go hang gliding or relax on the beach watching the hang gliders?

I would enjoy relaxing on the beach watching hang gliders, though hang gliding does sound fun.

Sydney's email address is linked above. She will be in the office occasionally, so if you see her say hi! If you're not around, feel free to say hi via email or Teams if you have a few minutes!

March Employment Anniversaries

Please join us in congratulating the following employees on their recent work anniversaries:

AMRUTHA RILEY | 8 years

If you could be reincarnated as any animal, what would you be? | Elephant – they are super smart with great memory, and are compassionate at the same time.

EVAN RODWAY | 3 years

What's your favorite meal to cook, and why? | My favorite meal to prepare is smoked ribs and/or smoked pork shoulder. I like preparing this meal as my family really enjoys the ribs and pulled pork, so it allows us to get together and enjoy a meal together, which doesn't happen often.

NAZAR SABTI | 2 years

Are you a morning person or a night person? | Morning person.

NATALIE IZRAL | 2 years

If you could be guaranteed one thing in life (besides money), what would it be? | Quality time with my family, friends, and pets.

LIEZEL WERNER | 2 years

JULIE SPANGLER | 1 year

What's your favorite activity from your childhood P.E. class? | My favorite activity in elementary school I remember having a gym class where we would play with this huge multicolored parachute that filled up the entire basketball court. The whole class, like 20 kids, would grab hold of the edge of this giant parachute and we would be instructed to do different motions with it, like waving it up and down. We'd then take turns running under it while everyone kept waving it. It seemed like the coolest thing, especially since the parachute only came out like once a year. Conversely, my least favorite activity was this stupid game called crab soccer. You'd sit on your butt and push yourself up on your hands and feet so you wobbled around like a crab. The soccer ball was a beach ball, and the game was played on a full-size basketball court. Inevitably your hands would get stepped on really hard and/or you'd get kicked in the face, and you'd be super dirty by the end of gym class because you were crawling all over the floor.

PENNY AUBERTIN | 1 year

What is your favorite time of the day, and why? | Bedtime – I love to stretch out and snuggle up in my blankets.
