Making and nurturing disciples of Jesus Christ to serve the community and the world
|
|
Normally, I write these blog posts hoping that readers will share 5-10 minutes to think, pray and/or act on a topic. Today, I am asking that, if you will still grant me the time, that you can help the Holy Spirit inspire future sermons and preaching series via workshop and prayer. Read the rest of Rob's message here.

SUNDAY WORSHIP SERVICE AUGUST 7, 2022
THE LITTLE GIRL
Business leaders in Ephesus stir up crowds to riot, believing that Paul and Christians are undermining their religion, their economy, and soon their peaceful politics. Paul is kept from speaking, and Alexander tries to speak to no avail. The village clerk warns the crowd that Rome could end their riot, or they could go home and settle any business in courts. Paul leaves after encouraging the believers. How might we encourage believers today, who struggle to have faith, and to live out their faith in a culture that doesn’t care and doesn’t want to listen…? What does our counterculture offer that might help people choose Jesus’ way over no way?

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES IN THE OFFICE!
We've had more retirements in the office, and we are looking for a few people who can spare a few hours a week to volunteer. Our office volunteers are instrumental to the successful operation of our offices and we need them more than ever now that Debbie has retired. Typical tasks include: answering the phones, greeting guests, sending out mailings and much more. We also will be adding some additional computer related tasks to the list for those interested.
We currently have openings for Monday afternoons (12:30-4:30pm) and Tuesday mornings (8:30am-12:30pm.) Starting in the Fall we will need someone Wednesday afternoons (12:30-4:30pm.) If you can't do every week we can work out a schedule. Please contact Carolyn Burnham or Lorie Montanye if you are interested in helping out.

MISSIONS/CHURCH IN SOCIETY

SACK SUNDAYS ARE HERE AGAIN!
The Committee on Missions/Church in Society has designated Sundays from August 14th-September 25th as times to fill the shelves of the Salvation Army Food Pantry. As Lieutenant Dena Smith informed us during her Salvation Army update on July 31st, pantry needs are again at an urgent level, due to the current economic situation.
|
|
|
The deserving poor live among us, in our otherwise affluent Fox Valley, and we must not forget them. So kindly accept a sack, offered after services on August 14th, and return it filled to the Donation Station, (located on the lower level beneath the Fellowship Hall), at any time through September 25th.
Current needs are:
|
|
- laundry soap
- dish soap
- women's deodorant
- pads/tampons
- incontinent pads, (like Poise)
- body wash
- shampoo/conditioner
- razors
|
|
- wet wipes
- size 6 diapers or pull-ups
- jelly, ramen noodles
- hamburger helper
- canned chicken
- peanut butter
- cooking oil
- cereal
|
|
|
You may of course, (hint, hint), bring any items to church previous to August 14. Additional sacks, with needs attached, will be available in the Donation Station if you are unable to attend church on August 14. Thanks to all of you who have remained so faithful to the Salvation Army Food Pantry these many years...our committee is grateful beyond words.
Questions can be directed to Nancie Lillie, at 231-845-6097.

PLEASE WEAR YOUR NAME BADGES
Putting on your name badge is NOT about you, but a service to others.
- It is one way to say, “We expect God to send us guests, and we want to be ready for them.”
- It helps members know one another by name.
- When people know each other’s names, the rules change.
Be of service to our guests and to one another by wearing your name badge
every Sunday.
Don’t have a name badge or need a new one? Send your name badge requests to [email protected], contact the office at 630-232-7120, or sign up for one at the Welcome Desk or the Greet the Pastor table after service in Fellowship Hall. When ready, your name badge can be picked up at the Welcome Desk.

WELCOME OUR NEW COMMUNICATIONS ASSISTANT
|
Please join us in welcoming our new Communications Assistant, Kimberley Larsen, to the church staff. She will be helping the church with both internal and external communications, producing our Weekly Messenger, Bulletin announcements and the website, as well as writing press releases, helping with website re-design and social media content.
Kimberley comes to us with various communications experience, ranging from journalist to public relations associate. She has a degree in journalism from Northwestern University and is looking forward to putting her writing skills to good use to service the church and its congregation.
Kimberley lives with her husband and three children, ages 15, 13 and 10, here in Geneva and loves spending time with them in this great town. She loves to read and garden, and is hoping to get proficient with a kayak in the Fox River this year!

THANK YOU!
Words cannot express how thankful I am for the wonderful gathering to celebrate 18 years of ministry with you at UMCG that you gave me on July 24th. It has been an honor to partner with you to share the great news of what God is doing in and through each of you. I am thankful for the opportunity to have been part of a staff that leads with hard work, dedication, love, and the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Every staff member over the years have been a blessing to me and I will be forever grateful to have been a part of this team. My husband Michael and I are in Florida babysitting our grands right now, and then we will be relaxing in a condo on the beach for a month. When we return to Geneva in October, I look forward to worshiping with and seeing you once again.
With heartfelt thanks and blessings,
Debbie Sampiller
