Making and nurturing disciples of Jesus Christ to serve the community and the world

Where do they get inspiration?
In a letter to Timothy, the author says " All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness' (2 Timothy 3:16 NRSV). It's good to know that Scripture is inspired by God, but where do the pastors get inspiration to select passages, create series and write sermons?
I like to think it's from the same place the authors of Scripture were inspired, from God. I - along with Pastors Lisa and Mary Gay- find God providing inspiration from our own devotional and prayer life. We also sense God moving in various art ... Read the rest of Rob's Message here.

- It helps members know one another by name.
- When people know each other’s names, the rules change.
- Be of service to our guests and to one another by wearing your name badge every Sunday.
Don’t have a name badge or need a new one? Send your name badge requests to Debbie@genevaumc.org or simply contact the office at 630-232-7120.

CHURCH CLEANOUT ANNOUNCEMENTS
|
|
CLEANOUT REQUESTED BY TRUSTEES
In anticipation of the upcoming painting and flooring project, the Trustees are asking all of the “owners” of spaces in the Church (offices, classrooms, closets, gathering rooms, etc.) to use red tags to identify those items which should be disposed of and white tags for those items which should be recycled. The tags are available on the long table inside of the Church office. The Creation Care Team had made a list of known recyclables and is on the counter in the office.
-
We ask that the tagging be completed by October 9.
-
We also ask that anyone available on Saturday, October 16 starting at 9 AM come to the Church to help carry the red-tagged items to a large dumpster which will be in the parking lot adjacent to the west side of the Church. There will be items large and small, heavy and light, so there will be something for everyone

Natural Remedies for Garden Pests
I have been gardening for quite a while now, and always find that insects pose one of the biggest challenges in the garden, whether they are aphids, Japanese beetles, cucumber beetles, ear wigs or other nameless critters.
Over the years I have come to rely on two bug remedies that don’t harm the earth, but which are quite effective. Aphids can often be sluiced away by a stream of water from a watering can. It may take several tries, but it does repel them. A leaf or stem with aphid clusters can be plucked off and stomped on—no one said it was easy to be a gardener!
My other go-to remedy is diatomaceous earth. It’s a fine powder made of the crushed, fossilized shells of tiny sea creatures called diatoms, and is available at local garden centers. If a plant is being chewed and nibbled on, a light powdering of diatomaceous earth can stop bugs in their tracks. It may need to be re-applied if it rains.
This spring I planted a pollinator garden with native plants and have noticed something interesting—there are plenty of insects, but most belong on the plant where they live, and nothing seems to gain an upper hand. So the natives have been thriving even through spells of heat and drought and have not been attacked by insects. Another great reason to include natives in our gardens.
And, a pesticide-free garden welcomes beautiful creatures such as this red-spotted purple butterfly. It’s a win-win! ~Fran Manos, Creation Care Team
