Narrowness and Openness

Dear Friends,

Jesus seems to present a paradox in this weekend's gospel: many will not be strong enough to enter heaven through the narrow gate, yet people will come from all over the world to recline at the table. As we contemplate this seeming contradiction, we present this week's news.
1. A Unique Opportunity for Dialogue
Rich's pastoral reflection explores the Paulists' understanding of the charism of ecumenism and interreligious dialogue. He suggests that we have a once-in-a-generation opportunity coming our way in early 2023! Also, check out his challenging homily from last week about extending our welcome to others.

2. Your Kin from All the Nations
(Isaiah 66:20)
The image of God gathering people from all nations in our first reading, Isaiah 66:18-21, is a perfect invitation to learn more about our Immigration Advocacy Group! Read more about IAG or send them a message.
3. Forming Our Consciences
Our young adults (ages 22-39) will gather after the 6 pm Mass Sunday, August 28, for dinner & discussion. Rich leads his favorite topic: "Can I Be a Good Catholic Even If I Disagree with Church Teaching?" Email Mairead your RSVP and dietary concerns.
4. Called to Be a Catechist?
Our Family Religious Education Program (FREP) returns in-person next month! Is the Holy Spirit calling you to serve as a catechist of our youth? If you can help at 11:15 am 2-3 Sundays per month, please check out the bulletin.
5. Ministry to the Marginalized
The latest issue of The Voice, the Paulist Fathers' newsletter, is available online. It details the resolutions of the Paulists' 2022 General Assembly, including increased commitments to marginalized populations and to addressing the toxic polarization in our Church and nation.
Proclaiming God's Glory Among the Nations
