Weekly News & Announcements
MCC Portland COVID precautions:
MCC Portland continues to follow the guidance of local and state health authorities. Moreover, we strive to assure our on-site gatherings remain safe and welcoming for all while COVID-19 continues. That means the following:

Multnomah County health officials recommend wearing masks indoors until rising COVID-19 counts and hospitalizations decline. This applies to gatherings on-site at 2828 SE Stephens Street.

  • If you feel ill or have symptoms of illness, please remain at home and join us on-line.
  • Please wear RED, YELLOW or GREEN beads provided on-site to indicate the level of distance or contact with others with which you are comfortable.
  • Masking indoors is recommended but remains optional with exceptions noted below. We continue to encourage masking for any and all persons to protect the health of those ineligible for vaccination and for those with health risk factors.
  • Singing is a higher risk activity. If you unmask and sing, please maintain extra physical distance (at least 10 feet) from those not in your household.
  • Please continue to bring a mask (or use one provided on-site) for the following times when indoor masking will be required:
  • When more than 40 people are present in the Sanctuary, all people will be required to wear a mask.
  • Masks are required for interaction with young children ineligible for vaccination.
  • Please wear a mask when approaching someone wearing RED beads.

If you are eligible and have not yet been vaccinated or boosted, we urge you to "love your neighbor as yourself" and do so for your own health and the health of others.

Prayers from Pride NEXT Sunday, June 26 @ 10AM
prayerflags
At the center of our worship the Sunday after Pride weekend, we pray aloud the prayers shared at our festival booth during Pride weekend. Join us in person or on-line at 10AM to share the joys and hardships, and hear the heart and soul of our LBGTQ+ community lifted in prayer. It's one of the most moving worship services we share at MCC Portland.
Praying With and For Others
manyhands
MCC Portland is a praying church! We share private prayers with a designated Prayer Team (ALL details kept within the Prayer Team ONLY) and other prayers with our community (including in this newsletter). Individuals indicate if their prayer is "private" or "public." Please use and share the on-line prayer request form for use HERE. You can also use a Connection Card (on-line or on-site), the on-site Prayer Book, or directly contact the church office. Find additional details on our Prayer Request webpage HERE.

Please include the following in your prayers this week:
  • Praise: that Dinah is able to watch church live with us then go to church where she lives.
  • Prayers for 3-1/2 month old granddaughter of Philp & Dylan, Sadie, who underwent surgery Friday to repair a hole in her heart (birth defect). The surgery went well, Praise God! (Pastor Nathan adds...) Prayers for Sadie's full recovery and vibrant health.
  • Praise: That law enforcement in Idaho were able to stop the group of White Nationalists before they "rioted" at the Pride Event in Coeur d'Alene.
  • For our upcoming Portland Pride weekend. That our MCC presence be joyful and meaningful visibility and witness; that someone who most needs to see and hear that they are loved might experience that this weekend. For all those who may feel anxious regarding safety at Pride gatherings; may they feel the Spirit of God's protection and comfort.
  • Another prayer for the Pride festival and parade this weekend (and for all the Pride events around our country and world). For safety and protection from those with hate in their hearts who would seek to bring harm; that their plans would be brought to naught. That our LGBTQ+ community would be able to celebrate in peace and joy. And, that we as MCC, would be a light to show God's love to our community and beyond.
  • Prayer for Alexa. She was tackled and arrested while seeking mental health assistance several months ago and her court date is this coming Wednesday.
  • Prayers for Vicki & Kim S-Z: Overall health.
  • Prayers that Kaysa gets well soon. (She was able to watch church Sunday on YouTube when she let us know she felt sick.)
  • (Patty O.) Pray for all in our church. Pray the war in Ukraine ends.
  • (Philip) For the war in Ukraine. Confuse the powers of the Russian army. Bring peace to both countries.
  • Prayers for healing and for patience.
  • Prayers for our politics & thanksgiving for the safety of Justice Kavanaugh, and the horrible murder attempt on his life.
  • (Philip) May we as a body of people who speak of social justice, find ways to practice what we preach.
  • Travel mercies for Charles Donald.
  • For Norm Costa who is in memory care and hospice care. He is somewhat improved from a few weeks ago, yet has better and worse days and times. His spirit and energy improves with visits. Visits from those whom he has known and may recognize are encouraged. If you would like to visit Norm, please contact a CLT member for details.
  • For the people of Birmingham, Alabama following yet another church shooting; for the healing of wounds, both physical and spiritual. Praise for (cautiously) optimistic news that bi-partisan gun reform legislation may be emerging. Continuing prayers for decisive and consequential action to be taken by public officials and individual citizens to reduce gun violence.
Tending Our Tears: A Queer-Led Space for Holding and Naming Grief
Sundays, 6-7PM, July-September @ Lone Fir Cemetery
Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. (Romans 12:!5)

If you are carrying grief right now you are not alone. There have been so many losses over the last few years that it's almost impossible not to have been impacted. Whether grief is an old acquaintance, or relatively new to you, naming and feeling the pain is vital to moving through it and you don't have to do it alone.
You are invited to join Pastor Grant for an hour each week this summer to make space for our grief, wisdom, and resilience. We are all stronger when we are not alone.
