This Sunday's Community Forum: Artist Lisa Bierer

We are excited to welcome liturgical artist Lisa Bierer https://www.lisabiererpainting.com/ as our speaker at this Sunday's Community Forum, 10:45-11:30am. We are commissioning Lisa to create a piece of art with the theme "Creation". The goal is to have the art installed by the first Sunday of Advent, November 30th. This project is part of a larger art initiative funded by the Cornerstone Endowment with the funding focus determined by the vestry.

Note: The image shared above is one of Lisa's pieces, not what will be hung at St. David's. She will create her work with inspiration from seeing our sanctuary and from the input she receives from us and from the Holy Spirit!

Vestry Update

Your St. David's Vestry met on Monday evening, August 18.

We began with conversation over a pizza dinner hosted by David Niles. We then engaged in Dwelling in the Word with a passage from Luke 13 concerning Jesus healing a woman on the Sabbath.

Nan Drake was our Vestry visitor representing the giving campaign. We will once again use the theme of "Walk in Love" this fall. Kickoff of the campaign is now less than two months away!

Our discernment topic for the meeting was a reflection upon St. David's Mission Statement, which is "We at St. David’s Episcopal Church are devoted to loving and serving God, one another and the world. Honoring the dignity and freedom of all to seek God at their own pace, we connect our life stories with the teachings of Jesus. Inspired by the Holy Spirit, we believe our actions transform the world and ourselves." The discernment questions we asked were: What speaks to you personally in our Mission Statement? How are we, as a congregation, living into our Mission? Where can we improve?  A good discussion ensued.

Next we reviewed gratitudes for the month, followed by the normal business of reviewing and approving the financials and minutes - the minutes can be found here.

The new business section of the agenda was packed and included:

  • Review of Rector's report
  • Review of Warden's report
  • An update on St. George's church in St. Louis Park, who is in the process of discerning the next step for their congregation, as staying in their space is no longer financially feasible
  • Approval of St. David's sponsorship of a Minnetonka-based bridge group
  • A review of the quarterly report on the Cornerstone Endowment
  • An update from the buildings and grounds committee, which is always busy and hard at work for St. David's!
  • An update on planning for Kickoff Sunday
  • Discussion about the upcoming ISAIAH meeting with state legislators that St. David's is hosting on September 11
  • Planning for the Vestry spiritual retreat, which will be September 14-15

We closed with prayer.

With anticipation and excitement for a new program year,

-David Niles, Senior Warden

Monday Morning Meditation - New Meeting Time!

This coming Monday, August 25th, Monday Morning Meditation gets a new regular meeting time, 9:30am. We invite you to join us at the Church in the Large Conference Room across from the Library.

We begin with a reading and sit in prayerful silence for 20 minutes and end with communal prayer. No experience is necessary but your love and mindfulness.

Welcome, Cambria Bold!

I couldn't be more pleased to announce that Cambria Bold will be joining our community as an intern as part of the process in her call to the priesthood. Cambria will be with us for 9 months, from Sunday, September 7 (Kick Off Sunday) through Sunday, May 31. You'll see her serving in worship, preaching, and participating and leading in other ways. Please read her bio here and please welcome her personally as she joins us!

In Gratitude,

Katherine

Meet Cambria!

Cambria Bold is a third-year M.Div student at Duke Divinity School and a postulant for Holy Orders in the Episcopal Church of Minnesota. She is delighted to be serving as an intern at St. David’s over the 2025-2026 program year.

She grew up as a missionary kid in Vienna, Austria and received her B.A. in English Literature from Wheaton College. Prior to discerning a call into ministry in 2021 (a surprise to her!), she worked for many years as a digital media editor and writer. (She still does, in fact, on a part-time basis.) She is also a trained singer with a background in musical theater, sacred choral music, and a more expressive style of cantoring.

As a postulant for the priesthood, Cambria has a deep love for The Episcopal Church and its people. She believes that the mysterious aspects of our faith and tradition — the spiritual stirrings brought about by liturgy, music, sacred space, and the sacraments — are an important part of our witness to a frenzied, distracted culture. She continues to discern how God has called her to faithfully and seriously play her small part in God’s great work in the world.

Cambria comes to St. David’s from her sending parish of St. Clement’s Episcopal Church in St. Paul, where she lives with her husband and their two terrific daughters, ages 8 and 11. When she’s not otherwise occupied with divinity school, work, or church life, she indulges her love for interior design, poetry, good food, and most of all, time spent with her family. She’s always dreaming of her next visit to Lake Superior.
