Last Sunday I introduced the sermon series of “Mission in the Margins.” The people Jesus came to earth to invite into the Kingdom of God were the people living in the margins. Surprisingly, it was not the people who were in the spotlight, celebrity types, or popular who found Jesus' attention. It was right the opposite. His mission to the marginalized people mentioned by Jesus were the poor, blind, captive, and oppressed. In a similar fashion, the marginalized people of our day can be described as the overlooked, pushed aside, and treated as less important. Jesus’ mission is our mission. Who are the people living in the margins we need to reach out to? My prayer is that God would give us eyes to see those who are overlooked or ignored and need to be included in the Kingdom of God. With sight given, may we be found faithful in responding with the Gospel.
