Godsend Gathering

Saturday, January 25, 10 am to 2:30 pm

(with a backup snow date of February 1)

On Saturday, January 25, the Rev. Dr. Michael Moynagh, Anglican priest and theologian of the Fresh Expressions Movement will be speaking at St. Mark’s Cathedral in Minneapolis. Mike is the author of numerous books including Godsend: A Handbook for New Christian CommunitiesBeing Church, Doing Life: Creating Gospel Community Where Life Happens, and more recently, Giving the Church: The Christian Community Through the Looking Glass of Generosity. He will share how Anglican Christians in the U.K. have been learning how to join up with neighbors who don’t go to church in lifegiving ways, and to share Jesus with them when invited. Participants will also experience and process “Soul Space,” a worship experience designed for people outside the institutional church. After this gathering Mike and Blair Pogue will travel around the state, meeting with anyone interested in learning more about what is involved in starting or sustaining a New Christian Community. If you would like snacks, lunch, and handouts, please RSVP to Blair Pogue at blair.p@episcopalmn.org by Monday, January 13.

Hoping you are able to come and share in this most innovative discussion about church from our friends "across the pond"! For questions or more information please contact Diane Curley at dcurley@stdavidsparish.org

Have you noticed anything new in the windows this Christmas? Thanks to Marty Scott’s creativity and hard work, the candle holders now feature refreshed greenery. This beautiful design and updated look truly make our sanctuary feel merry and bright. Great job, Marty!

It was a wonderful Christmas at St. David's!

“Being Disciples”, by Rowan Williams… a short but powerful read

In 2024 St. David’s offered a “congregational” read of the book, “The Truth at the Heart of the Lie,” by James Carroll, which was read and discussed by over twenty parishioners. This year’s book, “Being Disciples—Essentials of the Christian Life,” by the former Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams, is intended to be a community-forming read inviting contemplation, sharing of stories, and transformation through active listening.

We are planning weekly one-hour Zoom session for four weeks, starting in early February, for this endeavor.  Kris Ferrario and Scott Clark will co-facilitate the sessions and will develop questions for discussion.

More details will be outlined in the January 9th weekly news.

Fire Safety: words from a wise parishioner

Dear Friends.

We all make mistakes and may be embarrassed by them. But maybe the real shame is if we don't share so that we all can learn. So - here goes:

A couple of days before Christmas I was wrapping gifts. I shook some tissue paper to separate the pages. One floated near a lit candle (it didn't even touch it) and exploded into about five floating flames. Those caught the gift wrap, boxes, some gifts and the table cloth on fire. I ran to the kitchen and grabbed the fire blanket and threw it over the fire, extinguishing it immediately.

If you do not have a fire blanket, Google or Amazon "Prepared Hero" and get one or more for yourself and as gifts.

By the way, there's one hanging on the side of the oven at St. David's.

Have a happy and safe new year.

Norma Walton

Hats and Mittens Update

Many thanks for your generous donations of hats, mittens and scarves this month. Your donated items have already gone out to needy young people in the community.

Of note: Hats and Mittens, a 501c3 dedicated to providing free hats and mittens (& scarves) to children in need during the cold winter months, has already prepared and sent out over

29,000 sets of hats and mittens since early October! Last year the organization distributed about 27,000 total sets. Obviously, the need is greater than ever!

We will be collecting new or gently used (& clean) hats, mittens and scarves through the winter months. Please keep in mind this special outreach to the youth (infant to young adult) in the seven county metro area as winter is finally settling in.

There are Hats and Mittens collection boxes at the two south church entrances. Think of what having warm mittens, hat and a scarf will mean to a child or teen who has none.

Thank you for helping to keep our metro children and youth warm this winter.
