A Prayer For Those Living in Fear of Deportation

God of exile and homecomings, you led your people through the wilderness and taught us that welcoming the stranger is an act of kindness and love. We pray for all who live in fear of Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids, detention, and deportation. We grieve the heavy-handed response to largely peaceful protests, and the weaponizing of institutions meant to protect. In your mercy, shield the vulnerable from unjust laws and misuse of power. Strengthen our resolve to stand with immigrants and refugees, not out of partisanship, but as followers of the Risen Christ, whose kingdom knows no border. Through your Spirit, make us agents of justice and peace. Amen.

This Sunday, January 25 - St. David's Annual Meeting

This coming Sunday, January 25, we will gather in the undercroft at 10:45 am for the Annual Meeting.

We will review the highlights of this past year, recognize some of our amazing servant leaders, approve the 2026 Financial Plan, elect Vestry members, Wardens, Treasurer, and Convention Delegates, and look forward to the year ahead.

TOMORROW: JANUARY 23

A Day of Prayer & Fasting for Truth & Freedom

ISAIAH calls upon people of faith and all our neighbors in Minnesota to take part in a day of fasting, prayer, and action. When unjust laws stripped the people of India of their rights, Gandhi called the nation to a day of prayer and fasting. Now we invite Minnesotans and all people of good will to do the same — to call for ICE out of Minnesota immediately.

NO WORK. NO SCHOOL. NO SHOPPING.

MARCH DOWNTOWN MINNEAPOLIS AT 2:00PM

*Taking place inside the Target Center due to the forecasted cold weather.

Groups will walk to the Target Center together from either of the following gathering locations,

  • The Commons Park by US Bank Stadium
  • OR with other Episcopalians at the Gethsemane building - details in the ECMN statement below.

Click here (long statement) OR here (secular description) to learn more.

Click here to sign-up to participate.

Safety Considerations - It will be COLD!

It’s going to be frigid, even by Minnesota standards. Please do your own discernment about if the temperatures will be unsafe for you.

We encourage everyone to be mindful of their vulnerability when determining whether or not to show up to this in person event. It has gotten some significant publicity, and will be under great scrutiny. Please do your own personal calculations of the potential cost before deciding whether to attend in person.

On Jan. 23 - Join ECMN in Participating

All of ECMN is welcome to participate in this Day of Prayer and Fasting in whatever way feels meaningful. Prayer, fasting, protest, solidarity, acts of compassion and support are all welcome.

As Bishop Loya said in the churchwide vigil last week:

“We may not feel like we are able to stop what is happening in this place, or others that are surely yet to come. But no matter the outcomes, we will not be moved. We will continue to stand up. We will continue to stand with. We will march in the streets, and deliver food to those locked in their homes, and flood our legislators with calls for the madness to stop. And because we have each other,  because we are carried along by the Spirit’s river of love, the weariness will not overcome us. The anger will not consume us.”

When we gather together to pray and to root ourselves in community, we position ourselves to act from Christ’s love.

Join ECMN in the March Downtown Minneapolis

For those interested, there will be a larger march in Downtown Minneapolis in the afternoon of January 23rd.

Episcopalians are invited to gather at the Gethsemane building (905 Fourth Avenue South Minneapolis, Minnesota 55404) for a time of prayer and a word from Bishop Loya before making our way together to join the larger group a few blocks away.

  • Gethsemane's doors will open at 1pm.
  • Prayer at Gethsemane will begin at 1:30pm.
  • The rally outside of US Bank Stadium will take place at 2pm.
  • Parking: Gethsemane does not have a parking lot, but there are paid ramps and on street parking available around the building. we highly encourage carpooling or using public transportation.
  • Please Note: There are NO WORKING BATHROOMS on site. Please plan accordingly.

Other Ways to Participate on Jan 23

Fast on January 23rd - joining in the tradition of Mahatma Gandhi. When unjust laws stripped people of India of their rights, Gandhi called the nation to a day of prayer , fasting, and civil disobedience.

8:30am CT - Join a national prayer call in support of Minnesotans at 8:30am CT. Register here: https://bit.ly/Jan23MorningPrayer

10:00am CT - Protest the Airport: Why the airport? Over 1800 Minnesotans have been flown out of MSP on deportation flights just since Jan 1. Delta and Signature Airlines have been complicit in this and the Airport Commission has been passively allowing it. Many of the airport workers are themselves immigrants and many have been detained unlawfully by ICE agents racially profiling workers and travelers in the airport. The organization "50501" is hosting the airport action and dozens are turning out people to join them.

  • Location: Gather outside the airport on the Departures level.
  • Parking: Organizers recommend parking at a light rail station south of the airport and taking light rail.

1:30pm CT - Stop for a moment of prayer while those Episcopalians gathering in person in the cities prepare for a march.

11:00-2:00pm CT - Visit the Healing & Prayer Space at Mills Church. See details in the graphic below.

7:00pm CT - Prayer Service at Shiloh Temple (1201 W Broadway, Minneapolis.)

Participants will gain practical know-how and resources to engage in caucus night and local actions in the weeks ahead. Grounded in love of neighbor, we will explore how, together with ISAIAH, we build power so every person is treated with dignity, immigrants are welcomed, the sick are cared for, and the hungry are fed.. These trainings are open to the broader community, so you are welcome to invite friends and neighbors to join us.

Hats & Mittens

Hats & Mittens is a non-profit organization that collects hats and mittens for children (infant through teenage years). Its goal is to ensure that children in the seven county metro area have access to hats and mittens and be warm while they learn, reach and grow.

Through the winter months, St. David’s will be collecting warm hats, mittens/gloves and scarves in all sizes for infants through young adults. They can be new or gently used (but clean). There are Hats & Mittens boxes at the two south church entrances.

Many thanks for all the hats, mittens/gloves already donated this winter season. One special donation recently received was six sweet hand-knit infant caps in different colors.

Especially needed right now are warm hats and gloves for all ages, including waterproof mittens and gloves for elementary and teen-aged children. Your donation of hats, mittens and scarves, whether new or gently used (clean, please) will be so appreciated. Please know they will keep so many young people in the greater metro area warm during the current bitter January weather and the rest of the winter.

You can help spread the warmth.

Support ICA's Response Efforts

At ICA, every neighbor is welcomed and supported. No exceptions. ICA’s goal is to provide continuous service to our neighbors in need, even among the chaos happening now. Here are a few of the ways ICA is responding right now.

1. Emergency bag pick-up

ICA’s emergency bags, comprised of protein, eggs, milk, bread and shelf-stable items, are available during any open hours at the K-Tel location (11588 K-Tel Drive). Bags can be picked up for any community member. If you are picking up for several families, please email ICA at ica@icafoodshelf.org 24 hours in advance and larger orders can be accommodated.

2. Shopping appointment at K-Tel

The K-Tel Market is open for regular shopping appointments. Clients should call 952-938-0729 to make their appointments. Proxy shopping is available for anyone who needs it. ICA is not currently coordinating proxy shoppers, but will work with community members needing proxy shoppers. Check the ICA website (www.icafoodshelf.org) as proxy shopping may be evolving in the coming weeks.

3. Emergency housing and utility assistance

ICA is expanding its emergency housing and utility assistance programs during this time to help meet the surge in needs. Clients living in Hopkins, Minnetonka, Excelsior, Shorewood, Greenwood, Deephaven and Woodland can apply for rental and utility assistance.

You can help support ICA’s response efforts right now by making a financial contribution:

  1. For the extra food purchases as more emergency food bags are distributed.
  2. For emergency housing and utility assistance. (Many of our neighbors aren’t able to safely get to their jobs and need help with utility expenses.)

If you have questions on other ways you can support ICA’s work during the surge, reach out to Matt Dymoke, Director of Development & Communications at matthew@icafoodshelf.org.

Next ICA Sunday - February 1st

The next ICA Sunday at St. David’s will be on February 1st. Current needs include:

cooking oil

granulated sugar (small bags)

spices

lentils

chickpeas

whole ginger root

coffee/tea

shelf-stable minced garlic

As always, anything you wish to donate is always appreciated.

Our mission: To create a healthy and stable community for all

Our vision: A community where everyone has the resources to thrive

Our belief: ICA’s presence in our communities makes our neighborhoods more stable and secure
