A Prayer For Those Living in Fear of Deportation
God of exile and homecomings, you led your people through the wilderness and taught us that welcoming the stranger is an act of kindness and love. We pray for all who live in fear of Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids, detention, and deportation. We grieve the heavy-handed response to largely peaceful protests, and the weaponizing of institutions meant to protect. In your mercy, shield the vulnerable from unjust laws and misuse of power. Strengthen our resolve to stand with immigrants and refugees, not out of partisanship, but as followers of the Risen Christ, whose kingdom knows no border. Through your Spirit, make us agents of justice and peace. Amen.

Bernice A. King Reflects on January 23rd
Click here to be directed to an Instagram reel in which Bernice A. King reflects on last Friday's protest in Minneapolis attended by Minnesota clergy and citizens. The beginning of video features Rev. Katherine (pictured in the red coat and purple/white stole) alongside other clergy protesting at the airport.
Bernice A. King says "What you are doing is holy work" and reminds us of of Dr. King's words saying, "Progress is neither automatic nor inevitable... Every step towards the goal of justice requires the tireless exertions and passionate concerns of dedicated individuals... This is the season for vigilant non-violence, for unyielding love and righteous resistance."

Request for Mutual Aid
As you may know, many people in our communities are afraid to leave their homes, or are struggling as a family member has been detained by ICE.
We can help directly by sending financial support to a family connected to our parish.

Shrove Tuesday Pancake Dinner
February 17 @ 6:00 pm
The Cornerstone Endowment Committee invites everyone to a pancake dinner in the Undercroft on Shrove Tuesday, February 17, at 6:00 pm. Food will be available until 7:00 pm. Please join us as we celebrate the evening before Lent begins!
There is no fee for the dinner but freewill donations are gladly accepted. Your generosity is appreciated!
Fun Trivia:
- The idea of eating pancakes on Shrove Tuesday is over 1,000 years old. It was a way of using up rich foods before the beginning of Lent on Ash Wednesday.
- Before baking soda was invented cooks often used fresh snow as an ingredient as it helped the pancakes turn out light and fluffy.

ISAIAH News and Actions
Thank you to everyone who participated in the January 23 Day of Fasting and Prayer for Truth and Freedom. The day began with a prayer service on Zoom; a clergy protest at the airport; a very large march downtown; a rally in the Target Center and culminated with an Evening Prayer Service at Shiloh Temple.
Bishop Marian Budde from Washington, DC spoke at Shiloh Temple.
The recording may be found here.
So what is next? Here are some actions to take now:
- Call your Senators and Congressional Represents to not vote for an increase in ICE funding and to demand investigations of ICE actions and tactics. Google “Who Represents Me?” for contact information.
-
Saturday, January 31 at 10:00 AM: Join a sit in at the Crystal Target. See flyer here.

Hats & Mittens
Hats & Mittens is a non-profit organization that collects hats and mittens for children (infant through teenage years). Its goal is to ensure that children in the seven county metro area have access to hats and mittens and be warm while they learn, reach and grow.
Through the winter months, St. David’s will be collecting warm hats, mittens/gloves and scarves in all sizes for infants through young adults. They can be new or gently used (but clean). There are Hats & Mittens boxes at the two south church entrances.
January may be finally over, but winter cold will continue for a couple more months. Hats & Mittens continues to receive requests from non-profits that work with children and youth. Hence, the need is still great for warm mittens/gloves, hats and scarves for children ages infant to young adults.
New and/or gently used items are being collected in Hats & Mittens boxes, located at the church entrances. Hope you can help fill an important need for warmth for these children.
You can help spread the warmth.
