Art Committee Announcement

In 2025 St. David’s Endowment Committee released funds to the Church for a variety of purposes, one of which included refreshed and new art. To implement the plan, an Art Committee was formed comprised of the Very Reverend Katherine Lewis, Diane Curley, Randy Schwichtenberg, Ron Bates, and Scott Clark. The following is a summary of activities and goals for the committee:

Undercroft: Painting & Wall Art - This also includes revamping the back alcove space into a sitting area. Work is to be completed by Kick-Off Sunday, Sept. 7th, and a call out for painting volunteers will happen soon.

Sanctuary Space Mural - A major 35-foot-long painted mural will be designed and installed underneath the Church’s cross. The mural will also drive repainting of the east wall. The Art Committee has commissioned artist Lisa Beer for the work, and on August 24th a Sunday Forum will be held to have the congregation meet Lisa and hear her ideas for the mural. Work will commence on September 1st, with completion targeted for November 30th, the first Sunday in Advent.

Narthex: Celtic Cross - A new Celtic cross, made of wood saved from St. David’s fabled oak tree, will be installed in the Narthex and will be dedicated on November 2nd, all Saints Sunday. The Committee will be finalizing a design in late July, with wood artisan Chris Carda fashioning the cross.

It is important to note that one of the roles for Randy Schwichtenberg of the Building and Grounds Committee is as liaison to the Art Committee. New art and its installation requires strong coordination with the church’s current physical facilities and to inform future updates.

If you have any questions, please reach out to an Art Committee member.

This Saturday July 19!
