Introducing the Isaiah Lighthouse Path

Isaiah Who?

ISAIAH is a statewide, multiracial coalition of faith communities, Black barbershops and salons, childcare centers, and other organizations dedicated to advancing racial and economic justice in Minnesota. Representing over half a million people, ISAIAH includes more than 100 churches, 40 mosques, 500 childcare centers, and 20 Black-owned barbershops and salons. It is a nonpartisan 501(c)(3) organization based in St. Paul, MN. (ISAIAH, 2023)

What Lighthouse Path?

Lighthouse Path is a community movement aimed at guiding our state legislators as they identify funding gaps and recommend support for critical needs in our communities. Just as a lighthouse beam guides a ship to safety, Isaiah is sponsoring a series of town halls intended to serve as a guiding light for our legislators. In the Narthex you will find a suggestion box for concerns and state budget solutions to be discussed at a town hall on September 11th at St. David's. See the table in the Narthex for more information.

Why Now?

We anticipate that legislators will call a special session this fall to address funding gaps resulting from significant changes in federal funding. Lighthouse Path is gathering input on the needs of our communities and working to build a 'YES Agenda'—a path forward that truly supports you, your family, and the communities (urban, rual & suburbs) of Minnesota.

July Vestry Update

The St. David's Vestry met for its July meeting on Monday, July 21. We began with prayer then enjoyed a delicious meal provided by Bonnie Boyd.Next was Dwelling in the Word on this coming Sunday’s Gospel Reading from Luke 11:1-13.

The Vestry’s monthly visitor was Karin Lindquist from the HR committee. Karin shared the purpose and responsibilities of the team as well as their goals for the coming 12 months. This group provides an important sounding board for our rector. Thanks to Holly Lamond who chairs the committee. Other members of the committee are Karin, Allison Ferro, and Andy Harvala.

The monthly discernment topic was a review of our progress on one of this year’s vestry goals: Faithful Innovation.

Faithful Innovation is one of the Diocese of Minnesota’s 4 Priorities. For more information see this page on the ECMN website: https://episcopalmn.org/faithful-innovation

2025 Goals for Faithful Innovation

·       Take concrete next steps in the Comprehensive Campus Initiative Project

·       Ensure that St. David’s is experimenting with new ways of doing church

The Vestry discussed the recent successful participation in the Hopkins Raspberry Festival as an example of how we are working to look outwardly in our community. Other examples are our partnership with ICA, and hosting the upcoming town hall in September with our local state senators and representatives sponsored by Isaiah. We are committed to continue supporting such initiatives. As we look outward, we learn more about our neighbors and how we can serve them.

David gave an update on work he is doing with the diocese and gathering information from consultants to help St. David’s with a needs assessment on how we can move forward with the Comprehensive Campus Initiative Project. Cathy updated the Vestry on progress towards renegotiating ICA’s building lease.

The Vestry reviewed and approved the June meeting minutes and the June month-end financial report. Our finances continue to be strong thanks to the commitment of our parishioners. New business covered was an update from the Justice Collaborative on Isaiah, Kickoff Sunday Planning, and planning for the Vestry retreat on September 14-15.

The meeting ended with prayer, then adjourned.

You may review the full meeting minutes by clicking here.

Respectfully submitted,

Phishing Text Alert

Please be aware that a scam text has gone out that appears to have been sent from the Rev. Katherine Lewis. The message asks that you reply to the text about a situation that needs to be handled "discreetly". Please do not reply.

Here are some guidelines from US Cybersecurity experts:

Stay Safe with Three Simple Tips

1. Recognize

Look for these common signs:

Urgent or emotionally appealing language, especially messages that claim dire consequences for not responding immediately

Requests to send personal and financial information

Untrusted shortened URLs

Incorrect email addresses or links, like amazan.com

A common sign used to be poor grammar or misspellings although in the era of artificial intelligence (AI) some emails will now have perfect grammar and spelling, so look out for the other signs.

2. Resist

If you suspect phishing, resist the temptation to click on links or attachments that seem too good to be true and may be trying to access your personal information. Instead, report the phish to protect yourself and others. Typically, you’ll find options to report near the person’s email address or username. You can also report via the “report spam” button in the toolbar or settings.

3. Delete

Delete the message. Don’t reply or click on any attachment or link, including any “unsubscribe” link. Just delete.

Hopkins Raspberry Festival - That's a Wrap!

What do you call 800 cups of delicious raspberry infused water served, 95 heartfelt  gratitude sticks handwritten, too numerous to count “smiling” dogs refreshed , myriads of colorful stickers enjoyed, and many smiling hot faces spritzed?  We call that another successful and meaningful time with our neighbors down on Mainstreet at  the Hopkins Raspberry Festival!

Thanks to all who helped plan, schlep, volunteer, and support this St. David’s Faithful Innovation endeavor. “Church” is alive and well beyond our building walls! Enjoy these pictures to see for yourself and stay tuned for a community event where we will send up in prayer all our neighbors’ gratitude’s from our own firepit.

Art Committee Announcement

In 2025 St. David’s Endowment Committee released funds to the Church for a variety of purposes, one of which included refreshed and new art. To implement the plan, an Art Committee was formed comprised of the Very Reverend Katherine Lewis, Diane Curley, Randy Schwichtenberg, Ron Bates, and Scott Clark. The following is a summary of activities and goals for the committee:

Undercroft: Painting & Wall Art - This also includes revamping the back alcove space into a sitting area. Work is to be completed by Kick-Off Sunday, Sept. 7th, and a call out for painting volunteers will happen soon.

Sanctuary Space Mural - A major 35-foot-long painted mural will be designed and installed underneath the Church’s cross. The mural will also drive repainting of the east wall. The Art Committee has commissioned artist Lisa Beer for the work, and on August 24th a Sunday Forum will be held to have the congregation meet Lisa and hear her ideas for the mural. Work will commence on September 1st, with completion targeted for November 30th, the first Sunday in Advent.

Narthex: Celtic Cross - A new Celtic cross, made of wood saved from St. David’s fabled oak tree, will be installed in the Narthex and will be dedicated on November 2nd, all Saints Sunday. The Committee will be finalizing a design in late July, with wood artisan Chris Carda fashioning the cross.

It is important to note that one of the roles for Randy Schwichtenberg of the Building and Grounds Committee is as liaison to the Art Committee. New art and its installation requires strong coordination with the church’s current physical facilities and to inform future updates.

If you have any questions, please reach out to an Art Committee member.

There are five available routes, spanning distances from 16 to 100 miles, going through stunning west metro landscapes. If you enjoy biking and would like more information about the event and how to register, check online at:

Night to Unite is August 5

On Tuesday, August 5, neighborhoods across Minnetonka come together for Night to Unite, an evening dedicated to community connection, safety and fun. Consider hosting a food drive that night to support local families in need.

Collecting non-perishable food for ICA is a simple, yet powerful way to show we care for our neighbors.

If you are interested in hosting a food drive that night, go to the ICA website

www.icafoodshelf.org. On the main page, under the Volunteer section, choose Night to Unite 2025 Information and learn what you can do in your neighborhood.

Our mission: To create a healthy and stable community for all

Our vision: A community where everyone has the resources to thrive

Our belief: ICA’s presence in our communities makes our neighborhoods more stable and secure
