Join us for Safe Church Training!
Required for:
- ministry leaders
-
anyone who leads or participates in ministries alongside minors
- anyone who volunteers with vulnerable adults (LEV, Hope Springs, COHI)
- key holders
This Sunday, August 3rd during our forum time, our children and youth minister, Anna Belz-Brock, will facilitate a Safe Church training. Safe Church is the standardized program in the Episcopal Church for safeguarding the dignity of every human being. Safe Church policy requires all ministry leaders, paid church staff, keyholders, and anyone who works with children, youth, or vulnerable adults to complete levels of Safe Church training.
You may remember that earlier this year we offered an in-person Safe Church, Safe Communities training with Anna during the Sunday Community Forum. The four courses covered earlier this year constitute what St. David’s considers “Level 1” of the program. After the 9:30am service we will hold training for Levels 2, 3, and 4. We invite you to attend! You do not need to have taken the Level 1 training to attend this Sunday. We will offer a pizza lunch for all those who attend the full training. We estimate that the training will be finished by 1:00pm.
This in-person training will include the following courses,
Level 2:
- Safe Church, Safe Communities: Power and Relationships
- Safe Church, Safe Communities: Inclusion
- Safe Church, Safe Communities: Bullying
Level 3
- Safe Church, Safe Communities: Abuse & Neglect
Level 4
- Safe Church, Safe Communities: Pastoral Relationships
These modules can also be taken online. To receive instructions on how to take this training virtually, please contact Julia at the office email. Learners opting to take the course virtually should complete their training by August 30th.
All keyholders, ministry leaders, children and youth volunteers, clergy, and staff are also required to complete a background check every 3 years. If you are due for a background check, we will send you the form upon completion of your training.

Introducing the Isaiah Lighthouse Path
Isaiah Who?
ISAIAH is a statewide, multiracial coalition of faith communities, Black barbershops and salons, childcare centers, and other organizations dedicated to advancing racial and economic justice in Minnesota. Representing over half a million people, ISAIAH includes more than 100 churches, 40 mosques, 500 childcare centers, and 20 Black-owned barbershops and salons. It is a nonpartisan 501(c)(3) organization based in St. Paul, MN. (ISAIAH, 2023)
What Lighthouse Path?
Lighthouse Path is a community movement aimed at guiding our state legislators as they identify funding gaps and recommend support for critical needs in our communities. Just as a lighthouse beam guides a ship to safety, Isaiah is sponsoring a series of town halls intended to serve as a guiding light for our legislators. In the Narthex you will find a suggestion box for concerns and state budget solutions to be discussed at a town hall on September 11th at St. David's. See the table in the Narthex for more information.
Why Now?
We anticipate that legislators will call a special session this fall to address funding gaps resulting from significant changes in federal funding. Lighthouse Path is gathering input on the needs of our communities and working to build a 'YES Agenda'—a path forward that truly supports you, your family, and the communities (urban, rual & suburbs) of Minnesota.

Endowment Event Wednesday, August 20

As previously communicated, the Endowment Committee is planning a fun and special event on Wednesday, August 20, from 5:30-7:30pm at The Marsh.
We have received some RSVPs but would greatly appreciate more responses in order to prepare the right quantity of food and beverages. Even if you’re unable to attend please reply anyway!
There are extra invitations in the Narthex and church office, and you can always email, call, or tell me in person what your response is.

ICA Updates
ICA Sunday This Week - August 3
Just a a reminder that St. David’s next ICA Sunday is coming up soon - on August 3. Through the summer, ICA is collecting items for its Kids’ Summer Market. This special section in the food shelf provides extra food for families with school aged children during the summer months when kids don’t receive breakfast or lunch at school. It offers kid-friendly foods where parents can choose foods that will best match their family’s needs.

THIS SATURDAY August 2nd - Calling bikers to Tour de Tonka
The 20th annual Tour de Tonka has been scheduled for Saturday, August 2. A portion of every registration fee is donated to ICA. Did you know that since 2006, Tour de Tonka has contributed over $100,000 to support ICA’s mission.
There are five available routes, spanning distances from 16 to 100 miles, going through stunning west metro landscapes. If you enjoy biking and would like more information about the event and how to register, check online at:

Night to Unite is Tuesday, August 5
On Tuesday, August 5, neighborhoods across Minnetonka come together for Night to Unite, an evening dedicated to community connection, safety and fun. Consider hosting a food drive that night to support local families in need.
Collecting non-perishable food for ICA is a simple, yet powerful way to show we care for our neighbors.

Join with other Creation-loving folks for four seasons of on-farm learning and practice through the Farm Stewards ministry at Good Courage Farm in Hutchinson. This immersive, agrarian faith formation experience invites you (and church friends new and old!) to commit one Saturday a month (March through October) to a prayerful, joyful, reciprocal relationship with the farm's fruit trees, grapevines, or animals. Reconnect your spiritual life with the land and its gifts. Share the real fruits of your labor with those who hunger.
