A Message from the Rector
Dear Beloved at St. David's,
I will be away on vacation for 4 weeks to take a big, long drink of play and rest, from June 27-July 27. My plan is to travel and also just spend some time at home. I couldn't feel more confident in our leadership (clergy, staff, parishioners) to steer the boat while I am away. Deacon Guy Drake will be the primary contact for pastoral emergencies (gdrake@stdavidsparish.org, 612-590-8502), with the Revs. Lindsay and Leonard Freeman as priestly backup. Sr. Warden Diane Curley will be on hand for other needs (dcurley@stdavidsparish.org, 763-232-9412). I will be disconnecting entirely, not taking emails, phone calls, texts. You will be in my prayers, and I ask for your prayers as well.
With love and thanksgiving,
Katherine

Thanks to our Number One Crew!
It takes a village to put up tents, schlep equipment, and do even more... all in order to get St David's wonderful summer outdoor worship services up and running. We are all so grateful for the many who volunteered to set up and take down this past rainy, hot weekend. Under the direction of Randy Schwichtenberg and David Pearson it all came off without a hitch. Many thanks to all!

Join us for the Pride Parade on Sunday, June 30th! We will be marching with the ECMN contingent, which includes St. Mark’s and St. David’s. Meeting time and exact gathering location are to be determined, but the parade starts at 11 AM at 3rd & Hennepin and proceeds down Hennepin toward Loring Park.
All parishioners are encouraged to wear rainbow or Pride colors that Sunday, even if you’re not attending the parade. Let’s show our support and celebrate together!

Hopkins Raspberry Festival
Sign Up Now!

Your St David’s Hopkins Raspberry Festival committee has been hard at work dreaming and discussing all things Raspberry. We are excited about what we have up our sleeves so far and hope you will be too.
Our Marketplace Fair Booth for Saturday July 20th will be a place for rest, refreshment, and renewal for all the fair goers traveling along Hopkins Mainstreet.
· We will have chairs to rest, maybe even a fan.
· Free Raspberry infused and plain water for refreshment.
· A Gratitude Board activity …stay tuned…. for all ages.
· Information about St David’s available
· Face Painting and children’s area to chill
· Photo-Ops with 2 large cut outs --St David himself and his red dragon…conversation starters!
· Parishioners, hopefully you, listening, getting to know our neighbors, being present, faithfully innovating!
The Parade the next day, July 21st, will be festive with options to walk, bike, sit in a wagon to be pulled, rollerblade/skate, or catch a ride in the back of a pickup truck. We can carry signs of social justice, hand out candy/stickers to folks along the way, and decorate stuff like wagons, trucks, and even ourselves.
We hope many will participate in this important Faithful Innovation activity where we have been given a truly blessed opportunity to live into St David’s mission and vision statements.
Sign up now in the Narthex on the clipboards provided next to the Raspberry poster. You can participate in just one event or both.
Questions, please contact me in person in the Narthex after church, or via email @ dcurley@stdavidsparish.org
With gratitude,
Diane Curley, Senior Warden

PARISH VESTRY UPDATE
Your Vestry was at it again this past Monday night over in the ICA Jones Room with its mid-year Vestry Retreat. We started off our busy evening, as always, with a meal around the table courtesy of Kristina Stokes. Delicious as always, and many thanks! We then set the tone for the night, grounding ourselves in God, by opening with prayer and Gospel Based discipleship.
The main topic for the retreat was discussion and discernment around the Endowment Disbursement of Funds, and therein, the Vestry’s role and responsibilities in this process. First and foremost, know that the Endowment Resolution itself already dictates rules and directives as to what the money can be spent on. The Vestry is now being tasked with forming the parameters and processes by which to accomplish these most important distribution decisions. A great discussion ensued, and decisions made. Exciting times are certainly close at hand as we nourish St David’s legacy.
The end of the evening was composed of our regular business meeting, where we discussed finances, Rector/Warden/ Shepherd reports, upcoming activities and last but not least, voting on and approving the needed 2nd approval on the Endowment Committee’s Amended and Restated Resolution.
We hope to see many at the Pride Parade at the end of June and the upcoming Hopkins Raspberry Festival mid-July…...two ventures “outside the boat” as we strive to live out Christ’s love in the world.
Respectfully Submitted,
Diane Curley, Sr. Warden

Good News from the Endowment Committee!
The Endowment Committee has made great progress in the work needed to prepare for a distribution from the Cornerstone Endowment. We are targeting late summer-early fall to inform the Vestry of the dollar amount that would be available to them in 2024.
To get to this point, a sub-group worked on revising and combining three separate documents into one cohesive document, which now includes updated Bylaws, Policies/Guidelines, and Spending Rules. The revised document was reviewed and approved by the Endowment Committee in our May 13 meeting.
The next step required the document to be reviewed and approved at two consecutive Vestry meetings, which was done at the May 20 and June 17 Vestry meetings.
Now the work begins to calculate a distribution amount and set up a money transfer process through the Episcopal Church Foundation (ECF).
Another update will be sent in late summer but please contact Vida Edmond (vmedmond@gmail.com) in the meantime if you have questions.
Thank you for your financial and prayerful support of St. David’s!

Become a monthly supporter for our neighbors in need
ICA has launched its annual June recurring giving campaign to encourage supporters to sign up for a monthly gift, or increase their already existing one. As an incentive, an ICA supporter and volunteer has offered to provide a free $200 match for every new and increased monthly gift, no matter the amount!, up to $10,000.
If you are interested in setting up a monthly gift, go to www.icafoodshelf.org, choose Donate from the menu, then Make a Financial Contribution. In this current world of rising costs and growing needs, your monthly support can make all the difference.

Education for Ministry This Fall
Education for Ministry (EfM) is a four-year small-group formation program based on study and practice in theological reflection. There are currently two EfM groups in ECMN, one in-person local one and one online:
-
In-person group: An in-person EfM group will meet Thursdays from 10:00AM – 12:00PM at Grace, beginning in September 2024. Interested participants should contact Kathy Monson Lutes or Danielle McCoy.
-
Online group: An online EfM group meets Mondays from 6:30-8:30PM on Google Meet, following an academic year schedule (Sept. – May). The group includes members from several ECMN parishes as well as some non-Minnesotans.
Please note that in order to register for either group for the fall, the group mentor(s) will need your name to add to their group in the EfM registration system this summer, which will prompt the system to invite you to register.
Interested but want to know more before deciding whether or not to participate? We’re happy to facilitate a conversation with a current participant or mentor – please email efm.ecmn@gmail.com with that request.
Want to participate but neither of these options works for you? Let us know at efm.ecmn@gmail.com – there are also online groups based elsewhere, and another in-person group could be formed if there’s sufficient interest.
