"Stay Awake with Me": Lent, Holy Week, and Easter

We invite you to join us in a variety of opportunities for reflection over the season of Lent. All activities can be read about in our Lent brochure. Paper copies are available at the church.

Using the nocturnal owl to represent our theme of staying awake through the night, we sit with Jesus' invitation and encouragement to courageously and steadfastly await the dawn of a new day.

A Poem for Minab

by Deb Cooper

I want the names

of all the girls.

I want their faces.

I want to see the promise

that each father saw

when he looked

into her eyes

the hope

in every mother’s heart,

stirred into bowls

of soup or rice

in every good night kiss,

each blanket tucked.

I want to know what

woke each daughter

in the night

what might’ve soothed her

what made each daughter

stomp her feet

in rage

the trick to calm her.

I want the sound

of every single voice.

I want it singing,

laughing,

whispering a prayer.

I want it calling

and her mother came.

I want it calling

and her mother came.

I want that it had

been that way

not this.

I want the way

that each small hand

would feel in mine

if she were living

her quiet heartbeat

in my palm,

safe.

I want to brush

the tangles

from her hair

and hers.

I want to wash

each face.

I want to know

her favorite place

the dress she danced in

what she kept

inside her pocket,

what it meant.

I want to know

what it meant.

I want to know

what for.

I want to know

what for?

Tell me.

I dare you to try.

St. David's newcomer Deb Cooper wrote this poem in the aftermath of the bombing of the school in Iran, after seeing images of all of the small coffins.

A Message of Thanks

For several weeks we have held a mutual aid request in the Weekly News to support a family connected with our parish. This week we received this message from the beneficiary,

Dear Family in Christ,

We are writing to you today with hearts full of praise and gratitude. We wanted to reach out and personally thank you for the incredible outpouring of prayers and the generous donations you provided for our family. Your kindness ensured we were nourished and cared for during a time when we truly needed that extra hand.

May God bless you abundantly for your amazing spirit and support. We are so blessed to have a family in Jesus like you.

And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ - Philippians 4:19

Support ICA Every Week in March!

MN FoodShare Month - Week 3

We have reached the halfway point for Minnesota FoodShare Month. Many thanks to all who have already donated to support our neighbors in need this month.

As our neighbors recover from Operation Metro Surge and the SNAP crisis this past fall, they still need assistance for food, housing and utilities. And, as you know, grocery prices seem to be increasing almost daily, making it harder than ever to feed a family. The need just keeps growing.

During Minnesota FoodShare Month, food and financial donations will be accepted throughout the entire month of March. This year at St. David’s, a different weekly focus for your food donations is being suggested.

As you may recall, Instead of one ICA Sunday in March, we will be accepting your food and financial donations throughout the month of March.

Donation Focus for Sunday, March 15th: Baking Products

Donations could include: flour (5#), sugar (4#), vegetable/canola oil, spices, condiments, baking soda, baking powder, vanilla. Please consider bringing just 1 or 2 items to contribute.

Other current ICA needs include:

Non-dairy shelf stable milk

cereal

canned fruit

peanut butter

jelly

syrup

vegetarian Rice-a-Roni

salad dressing

laundry pods

toilet paper.

Bring your gifts of food to church and put them in one of the ICA baskets, located at the church entrances. If you wish to make a financial gift, you can drop a check made out to ICA in the Sunday collection plate or go to

www.icafoodshelf.org/donate. If you make a gift through ICA’s website, be sure to indicate you are a member of St. David’s.

Whatever way you choose to support ICA during Minnesota FoodShare month, please know it will be most appreciated.

Egg cartons needed

ICA is once again accepting egg cartons. Please put your empty egg cartons in the ICA basket, located at the church entrances.

Happy Hour on 3/17 to End Hunger

Looking for something to do on St. Patrick’s Day? Visit Boom Island Brewing Company on St. Patrick’s Day and support ICA. food donation bins will be available and $1 from every pint sold will go to ICA. In addition, there will be Irish dancers, the Squeaky Cow food truck & giveaways.

Belinda’s Coat Auction for ICA

Belinda Jensen, KARE 11 meteorologist, is celebrating her upcoming retirement by giving back. She is auctioning off the iconic coats she has worn throughout the years, with 100% of the proceeds going to benefiting ICA. Check out Bel’s Coat Auction on www.icafoodshelf.org. You might want to make a bid on a certain coat.

Our mission: To create a healthy and stable community for all

Our vision: A community where everyone has the resources to thrive

Our belief: ICA’s presence in our communities makes our neighborhoods more stable and secure

Protect Elections & Restore Communities!

Hennepin County Board Meeting, March 10 at 12:15 PM

Our community is hurting: people who stayed home from work for fear of ICE now struggling to avoid eviction, small businesses who survived COVID wondering if they can keep their doors open, and facing ongoing cuts to food assistance and healthcare that threaten to close one of our county's most important hospitals. We're also facing threats of the same ICE agents who caused this harm being present at our voting booths in the fall to intimidate voters.

Our local county government plays an essential role in safety net programs and runs our elections, so we need to send them a clear message: Protect Our Elections and Restore Our Community!

We invite you to join us next Tuesday, March 10 to pack the room and speak up during the Commissioners' Board Meeting and share our expectations that they work with us to Protect & Restore. We will meet in the lobby of the Hennepin County Government Building at 12:15pm for a brief huddle, then head through security to the Board Meeting and sign up to speak during their public comment section. More details about logistics and suggested talking points can be found here. Will you join us and speak up for your community?

Sign up here to join us 3/10 at 12:15pm!

In light of the current day, what do these women have to teach us?

Current political dynamics may be new to some of us — or not. But what about Bible women, our spiritual ancestors, who lived thousands of years ago? How did their faith and actions play a part in God’s story and how might they give us strength and courage today?

Read their stories and come be part of the conversation!

Endowment Committee - Seeking New Members

The Endowment Committee is also looking for new members. We meet every other month in odd numbered months (January, March, etc.) to discuss a wide range of items related to the St. David's Endowment fund.

While some topics are financially related, rest assured that we have professionals within St. David’s and the Episcopal Church Foundation to help guide us.

We cover a variety of items to ensure the Endowment is a meaningful part of church life. In addition to financial reviews, we might also work on marketing materials, planning events, or updating our website presence.

If you are interested in joining or would like to learn more, please contact Vida Edmond, Chair of the Endowment Committee, at vmedmond@gmail.com.

In gratitude,
