"Stay Awake with Me": Lent, Holy Week, and Easter
We invite you to join us in a variety of opportunities for reflection over the season of Lent. All activities can be read about in our Lent brochure. Paper copies are available at the church.
Using the nocturnal owl to represent our theme of staying awake through the night, we sit with Jesus' invitation and encouragement to courageously and steadfastly await the dawn of a new day.

March Vestry Update
The St. David's Vestry met on Saturday, March 14 for a half-day retreat. The goals of the retreat were: grounding in faith, building community, learning about the work ahead, and charting a course for 2026.
The retreat agenda included the following topics:
- Dwelling in the Word: Lamentations 3:16-24
- The vestry reviewed and discussed chapters 1-2 in the book, Grounded in God, by Suzanne G. Farnham, Stephanie A. Hull, and R. Taylor McLean. This book provides a spiritual foundation for the vestry’s work. Chapters 1 and 2 covered the topics of discernment and total listening. The vestry strives to use these techniques in its work. For example, there is a discernment topic on each monthly meeting agenda.
- 2026 Planning: the vestry created goals for the year using the 4 diocesan priorities of Discipleship, Faithful Innovation, Justice, and Congregational Vitality as a framework. We also reviewed our Mission, Statement of Welcome, and Vision Statements to inform the goals for the year. More than once during the discussion, we noted our goals all lead us back to “Loving God, Loving One Another.” We will share the 2026 goals at the “Word with the Wardens” forum in April.
- March Vestry Business
- Approved the February Finance Report and the February Meeting Minutes.
Respectfully submitted,
Cathy Schwichtenberg
Senior Warden

Maundy Thursday Agape Meal: CALLING ALL POTAGER CHEFS
What in the world is a potager chef, you may ask?! It is a cook who specializes in soups! Even if you don’t specialize in soups, we will gladly take your generous soup contributions for St David’s upcoming Agape Meal on Maundy Thursday, April 2nd at 6:00pm in the Undercroft. This special meal starts out our evening service of Holy Eucharist, Foot Washing and Stripping of the Altar.
This is a communal family style meal with a variety of soups, warm pita bread, delicious homemade hummus, nuts, olives, and dried fruit. We are looking for both meat and vegetarian soup options. Please sign up in the narthex/undercroft to bring a crockpot of soup. You may also email me, or call me if you would be willing to prepare a soup for the evening.
Thanks in advance!

A Poem for Minab
by Deb Cooper
| | |
I want the names
of all the girls.
I want their faces.
I want to see the promise
that each father saw
when he looked
into her eyes
the hope
in every mother’s heart,
stirred into bowls
of soup or rice
in every good night kiss,
each blanket tucked.
I want to know what
woke each daughter
in the night
what might’ve soothed her
what made each daughter
stomp her feet
in rage
the trick to calm her.
| | |
I want the sound
of every single voice.
I want it singing,
laughing,
whispering a prayer.
I want it calling
and her mother came.
I want it calling
and her mother came.
I want that it had
been that way
not this.
I want the way
that each small hand
would feel in mine
if she were living
her quiet heartbeat
in my palm,
safe.
| | |
I want to brush
the tangles
from her hair
and hers.
I want to wash
each face.
I want to know
her favorite place
the dress she danced in
what she kept
inside her pocket,
what it meant.
I want to know
what it meant.
I want to know
what for.
I want to know
what for?
Tell me.
I dare you to try.
| | St. David's newcomer Deb Cooper wrote this poem in the aftermath of the bombing of the school in Iran, after seeing images of all of the small coffins. | | |

Support ICA Every Week in March!
MN FoodShare Month - Week 4
During MN FoodShare Month, communities across the state rally together to fight hunger. It’s a powerful reminder that ending food insecurity takes all of us. During this month especially, we are part of the team making sure our neighbors have the food and stability they need.
February was a challenging, but fulfilling month at ICA. Did you know that over 1000 emergency food kits went out ICA’s doors and dozens of families were supported with rental assistance. ICA was able to do this, thanks to all its supporters - and that includes you.
As you may recall, your food and financial donations will be accepted throughout the month of March. This year at St. David’s, a different weekly focus for your food/non-food donations is being suggested.
Donation Focus for Sunday, March 22: Cleaning Products
Your donations could include:
-
personal cleaning items such as: hand soap, body wash, shampoo & conditioner
-
household cleaning items such as: dish soap, laundry pods, glass cleaner, all purpose bath & kitchen cleaner.
Please consider bringing just 1 or 2 items to contribute.
Thanks to last Sunday’s blizzard and cancelled church services, there was no ICA collection last week. If you still have the baking items you planned to donate, do bring them this Sunday.
Other current ICA needs include:
| | |
Non-dairy shelf stable milk
cereal
canned fruit
peanut butter
jelly
| | |
syrup
vegetarian Rice-a-Roni
salad dressing
toilet paper
| | |
Bring your gifts of food to church and put them in one of the ICA baskets, located at the church entrances. If you wish to make a financial gift, you can drop a check made out to ICA in the Sunday collection plate or go to www.icafoodshelf.org/donate. If you make a gift through ICA’s website, be sure to indicate you are a member of St. David’s.
Many thanks to all you have already donated to support our neighbors in need during this month. However you choose to support ICA during MN FoodShare Month, please know it is truly appreciated.
Egg cartons needed
ICA is once again accepting egg cartons. Please put your empty egg cartons in the ICA basket, located at the church entrances.
Belinda’s Coat Auction for ICA
Belinda Jensen, KARE 11 meteorologist, is celebrating her upcoming retirement by giving back. She is auctioning off the iconic coats she has worn throughout the years, with 100% of the proceeds going to benefiting ICA. Check out Bel’s Coat Auction on www.icafoodshelf.org. You might want to make a bid on a certain coat.
Our mission: To create a healthy and stable community for all
Our vision: A community where everyone has the resources to thrive
Our belief: ICA’s presence in our communities makes our neighborhoods more stable and secure

St. David’s hosted a St. Patrick’s Day dinner and Bingo event on Friday night, March 13th. About 80 people attended and the fundraiser earned $2,057! Thanks to all who contributed!
A traditional meal of corned beef, mashed potatoes, cabbage, colcannon, and brownies was cooked and served by Sarah Leigh and Dean Sather. Irish soda bread was prepared by Laura Dickenson of Gramercy Catering. It was all delicious! People were happy to go back for seconds and even take some food to-go. Thank you Sarah, Dean and Laura!
There was a costume contest for adults and kids with prizes for the best costume in each. The kids had a 3-way tie so they all got prizes!
After the meal, we played Bingo. Many people won prizes, perhaps due to the leniency of the Bingo caller who never asked the participants to clear their cards! Karin Lindquist was our humorous and easy-going Bingo caller and added a lot of fun to the game. Karin also planned the event and did lots of behind the scenes work to make it happen. Thank you Karin!
Thanks also to the many volunteers who sold tickets, served food and beverages, set up the Undercroft for the event, and helped with clean-up.

In light of the current day, what do these women have to teach us?
Current political dynamics may be new to some of us — or not. But what about Bible women, our spiritual ancestors, who lived thousands of years ago? How did their faith and actions play a part in God’s story and how might they give us strength and courage today?
Read their stories and come be part of the conversation!
