Welcome, Julia Moser-Hardy,

our new Minister of Parish Life!

I am so pleased to announce that Julia Moser-Hardy will be joining the staff as our new Minister of Parish Life. Her first day will be March 31. Welcome Julia!

As many of you know, we've been without a parish administrator since last May. We intentionally took time to study, discern, and envision the staffing for this key position, which some have described as the vital "connective tissue" of the congregation (or even "air traffic controller"!). Thank you to the team that coordinated this study and made recommendations: David Niles and Cathy Schwictenberg (co-chairs), Shea Brendalen, Kimberle Lopac, Mary Mann, and Vida Edmond. The team interviewed staff from other congregations, deliberated over drafts of position descriptions, recommended a greater numbers of work hours per week for the position (up to 32 hours) and were clear about the importance of understanding this role as a "ministry" role, recommending the title "Minister of Parish Life" to capture the essence of the role.

Meanwhile, I've been amazed at how smoothly office operations have gone during this interim period due to staff stepping up and covering many needs and to our wonderful office volunteers. Thank you, Roger, Shea, and Anna! Thank you, Marilyn Clark, Vida Edmond, and Jane Sandsmark!

Thank you, too, to our Personnel Committee who have led and guided me throughout this whole process: Holly Lamond (chairperson); Allison Ferro, Andy Harvala, and Karin Lindquist. And thank you to Kristina Stokes for helping us post the position online.

As Julia gets settled in her new role, we'll let you know what her office hours will be. Also, stay tuned for how you might help us welcome Julia as a minister among us.

We are blessed and I am grateful.

In Christ's love and life,

Katherine

Julia Moser-Hardy

Julia holds a Bachelor's degree in Dance & Psychology from St. Olaf College. She has spent the last decade performing with modern dance companies based in the Twin Cities and teaching dance in faith-based studios throughout the metro. In these communities, she has especially enjoyed mentoring young people through the fusion of spiritual and artistic self-expression. Apart from her experience in the arts, Julia offers a background in small business administration. She finds deep meaning in facilitating the “how” of an organization’s process and finding ways to fully live out their deeper "why". A lifelong Episcopalian, she especially appreciates this faith tradition that embraces gray area and encourages the practice of asking critical questions. She looks forward to asking questions with the St. David's community and exploring the opportunities for its future. In her free time, Julia enjoys hiking, playing board games with her fiance Doug and cuddling with their cat, "Arlo".

We’ll kick off the evening with a potluck meal, so bring a dish to share. Then, we’ll come together to assemble 100 survival kit bags for our unhoused neighbors. Each participant will have the opportunity to take a few bags to keep in their car, ready to offer to those in need.

Service of Healing and Holy Eucharist

Sunday, March 30, 8:00 and 9:30

The Fourth Sunday of Lent

Our worship on March 30 will be similar in form to our regular Sunday worship but will also include special communal prayers for healing as well as an invitation for individuals to receive anointing with oil and prayers. We hope you'll join us.

"The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

He makes me lie down in green pastures;

he leads me beside still waters;

he restores my soul."

Psalm 23:1-3a

Lent Evensong

Saturday, April 5, 5:00pm

Join our parish choir, along with other singers from around the Twin Cities, for contemplative musical evening prayer. With scripture, prayer and music drawn in part from Celtic sources, we will meditate on finding strength and hope in difficult times.

- Clarissa Pinkola Estés

Calling all singers and instrumentalists:

Help us celebrate the high point of our liturgical year!

Once again this year, we’re forming a large musical ensemble for Easter Sunday. Singers and instrumentalists of all ages and all experience levels are invited to join. Rehearsals will be on Wednesday evenings, April 9 & 16, and on Saturday morning, April 19. (Exact times to be determined.)

Please contact Roger Stratton (rstratton@stdavidsparish.org) by April 1 if you’d like to join in the festivities.

Upcoming Forums

March 23: New Voices in Celtic Sacred Music (Roger Stratton)

March 30: Social time

April 6: Episcopal Church History

Kris Ferrario will lead a Forum on Sunday, April 6, for an exploration of the rich tradition of the Episcopal Church, of which St. David’s is a part. As a member of the global Anglican Communion, the Episcopal Church bridges the ancient and the modern—rooted in tradition, theology, and governance while actively engaging with contemporary social issues.

Invitation to a Spiritual Practice for Lent:

The Art of Neighboring

Did you know that Americans are spending more time alone today than in any period in modern history? Some are saying it’s an “epidemic of loneliness”. Across all demographic groups our time socializing face-to-face is down 20% from 2003 to 2023... and for youth it’s down 40% (Bureau of Labor Statistics)!

What does this mean?  How is it changing us? What does scripture offer as a source of wisdom to guide us?   As Bishop Loya implores us… what is one “small thing” that I can do?

Our invitation is for everyone to identify ONE Lenten practice that will change the way you interact with your “neighbors”. We will gather again after Lent to share our stories of how this one small Lenten practice made an impact on ourselves or others.

Labyrinth Stations of the Cross

Come experience the Stations of the Cross as you walk the Labyrinth at St. Edward’s Episcopal Church (865 N Ferndale Rd, Wayzata). Every Friday in Lent from 1pm-7pm the Sanctuary will be open and available to the public.

Elder Justice Information Session

The Minnesota Attorney General's Office, in conjunction with the Minnesota Elder Justice Center, is putting on an information session via zoom, entitled, "Consumer Road Show for Seniors". March 27, 12-1 pm.

Scams targeting senior citizens come in all types and sizes, range greatly in complexity, and may originate from someone close to you or a stranger halfway around the world. Join staff from the Minnesota Attorney General’s Office for a presentation and conversation about common scams targeting seniors and what you can do to keep yourself safe!

More neighbors than ever are facing food insecurity, having to choose between feeding their family and paying rent on time. In fact, one in five Minnesota families are facing hunger. Your donation will lend a helping hand to our neighbors so they don’t have to face this difficult choice.

Current needs include:

Food           Non-food

*peanut butter  *toilet paper

*jelly/jam       *menstrual pads

*oatmeal       *diapers

*canned fruit.   *paper towels

If you wish to make a financial gift, you can drop a check made out to ICA in the Sunday collection plate or go to the ICA website: www.icafoodshelf.org/donate.

When you make a gift through ICA’s website, be sure to indicate you are a member of St. David’s.
