March is Women’s History Month

This week we celebrate Rev. Sally Azar. On January 22, 2023, Rev. Sally was ordained in Jerusalem, making her the first female pastor in the Holy Land. A Palestinian Christian, she leads English and Arabic services in Jerusalem and in Beit Sahour, a Palestinian town east of Bethlehem, known as the site of the Annunciation of the Shepherds. We give thanks for her witness to the Gospel, for her steady determination to live out her call, and for all the women who have walked her exact footsteps but never received authority or recognition from the Church.

This Sunday: The Peace Table – all children are invited to join us this Sunday as we bury the Alleluia for Lent.

Celtic Christianity: A Trio of Forums

Esther DeWaal says, “the Celtic approach to God opens up a world in which nothing is too common to be exalted, and nothing is so exalted that it cannot be made common.”

A group of St. David’s congregants, currently preparing for a Celtic Christian pilgrimage to Wales, have begun to delve into the rich works of Esther DeWaal and other Celtic writers as part of their preparation. These upcoming Sunday forums provide an opportunity for everyone to acquaint themselves with the foundations of this rich tradition. History, modern-day practices, music, and experiences from a past pilgrimage will guide us along a new way of experiencing our Christian faith. We invite you to mark your calendars for these Sunday Forum offerings:

March 9: Celtic Christianity (Cliff Crockford)

March 16: Ireland Pilgrimage insights (Rev. Katherine & Deacon Cindy Hillger. St. Martin's by the Lake)

March 23: New Voices in Celtic Sacred Music (Roger Stratton)

Other Upcoming Forums

March 30: Social time

April 6: Episcopal Church history (Kris Ferrario, on behalf of the Organic Formers)

Invitation to a Spiritual Practice for Lent:

The Art of Neighboring

Did you know that Americans are spending more time alone today than in any period in modern history? Some are saying it’s an “epidemic of loneliness”. Across all demographic groups our time socializing face-to-face is down 20% from 2003 to 2023... and for youth it’s down 40% (Bureau of Labor Statistics)!

What does this mean?  How is it changing us? What does scripture offer as a source of wisdom to guide us?   As Bishop Loya implores us… what is one “small thing” that I can do?

Our invitation is for everyone to identify ONE Lenten practice that will change the way you interact with your “neighbors”. We will gather again after Lent to share our stories of how this one small Lenten practice made an impact on ourselves or others.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

The prayer shawl ministry is a quiet ministry. We tap our creative energy to craft shawls to share with members of the congregation who are in need of comfort and support during difficult times. If you know of anyone who would benefit from receiving a shawl please let the parish office know.

We also celebrate baptisms and high school graduations giving blankets/throws. The group meets in contemplative activity on the second Saturday morning of the month in the library to knit and crochet together. We are looking for more people to join our group. We welcome all who are interested, and can provide supplies and instructions to knit and crochet. If you're interested, please contact Joanne Allan at 952-938-2226.

Shrove Tuesday Pancake Dinner

Thank you!

On behalf of the Cornerstone Endowment Committee, I’d like to thank everyone who came to the Shrove Tuesday pancake dinner. It was a great turnout and wonderful to see so many people.

Your generosity resulted in a freewill donation of $652 for the Youth Group’s pilgrimage trip to Iceland. This community is so amazing in the way people step up and your support of our Youth is truly heart-warming!

In gratitude,

Vida Edmond

Grow (literally) in faith at Good Courage Farm this year!

Join with other Creation-loving folks for four seasons of on-farm learning and practice through the Farm Stewards ministry at Good Courage Farm in Hutchinson. This immersive, agrarian faith formation experience invites you (and church friends new and old!) to commit one Saturday a month (March through October) to a prayerful, joyful, reciprocal relationship with the farm's fruit trees, grapevines, or animals. Reconnect your spiritual life with the land and its gifts. Share the real fruits of your labor with those who hunger. Deepen your literacy in reading both Creation and Scripture for revelations of God's generous love. Click here to learn more about growing with Good Courage Farm in 2025 - spiritually and literally.

The 44th annual Minnesota FoodShare Month begins on March 1. The Minnesota FoodShare Program was started by the Greater Minneapolis Council of Churches.

Hunger continues to grow in Minnesota. Families struggle to feed themselves as food prices and food insecurity keeps rising. Subsequently, food shelf demand continues to soar.

In fact, in 2024 Minnesota had a record-breaking 9 million food shelf visits in 2024. That is up from the 2023 record of 7.5 million visits!

ICA is seeing record number of families visiting the food shelf. With over 1000 families visiting each month, the ICA food stock is in constant need of being replenished. Traditionally, spring is a time when contributions of food and financial support begin to decline. In response, ICA joins the hundreds of other food shelves in Minnesota to encourage contributions during March FoodShare Month. It’s the second most important time of the year for food and financial contributions.

You can make a difference by helping ICA collect 150,000 pounds of food and $250,000 during the month of March.

Current needs include:

Food              Non-food

*cereal           *wet pet food

*pasta           *toilet paper

*mac & cheese   *paper towels

*crackers        *kleenex

*juice

*ramen

You can bring your gifts of food to church any March Sunday or drop them off at your convenience in one of the ICA baskets at the church entrances. If you wish to make a financial gift, you can drop a check made out to ICA in the Sunday collection plate or go to the ICA website icafoodshelf.org/donate. When you make a gift through ICA’s website, be sure to indicate you are a member of St. David’s.

Whatever way you choose to support ICA, please know it will make a difference to many. Thank you.
