Alcohol Responsibility Month

April is Alcohol Responsibility Month. As a corporate partner of Responsibility.org we want to share this year’s theme “Good Friends, Good Choices, Good Times,” recognizing there are actions to take to celebrate responsibly.

Throughout this month, we encourage you to join us in taking a moment to consider how our choices and behaviors around alcoholic beverages can impact both ourselves and those around us. Whether it's choosing a friend—or volunteering yourself—to be a designated driver, making it known that you will never serve to anyone under 21, or simply enjoying drinks mindfully, every decision counts when it comes to responsibility.

Laylat al-Qadr

For Muslims, Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, is highly revered and serves as a time of deep spiritual reflection. The last 10 days of the month hold particular importance for believers, who try to increase and intensify their acts of worship.

Laylat al-Qadr, Arabic for "night of decree" or "night of power," is believed to fall within the last ten days of Ramadan. For Muslims, this is the holiest day of the entire year.

What is Laylat al-Qadr?

Laylat al-Qadr is the holiest night of the year for Muslims, who believe it is when the first verses of the Quran were revealed to the prophet Mohammed.

Beware of the Ticks in New England

A moderately warm winter in New England provided a nice transition into spring. Unfortunately, the warm winter also contributes to a bigger tick population.

First and foremost, the CDC suggests you start your tick checks earlier than usual. Make tick checks habitual and routine. In addition to checking your body, it’s important to check your clothing as well. Tumble-drying your clothing on high heat for 10 minutes can also kill them off. It’s important to note that cold and medium temperature water will not kill ticks, but hot temperatures will.

Other preventative measures include wearing bright clothing to make ticks more visible, given they can be the size of a poppy seed. Check your pets thoroughly as well. You can spray your gear with products that are Environmental Protection Agency registered and showering soon after coming in from the outdoors can also serve as beneficial.

April is Autism Acceptance Month

Every April, the Autism Society works to build an inclusive community where autistic individuals are embraced and supported to achieve the highest quality of life possible. The Autism Society was founded in 1965 by Bernard Rimland and remains one of the few grassroots organizations in the autistic community. Driven by the fact that autism is the fastest-growing developmental disability in the world, the Autism Society hosted one of its first nationwide efforts of an awareness campaign called National Autistic Children’s Week in 1972, which subsequently evolved into the Autism Awareness Month earmarked in April. In 2021, Autism Awareness Month was renamed Autism Acceptance Month to foster acceptance and ignite change.

The Autism Society deeply understands the need to foster awareness and acceptance to ignite change and a healthier lifestyle through improved opportunities for people with autism. It works every day to improve the lives of affected individuals and families. The organization caters to more than 600,000 people living under the “autism onslaught,” using tools like community partnerships with organizations, digital and print resources, along with events and referrals to spark empathy and inclusivity in the general public. Besides educating masses for better systems-wide change and acceptance, their affiliate program stretches across more than 75 networks and advocates for exclusive services for the autistic community.

With the autism diagnosis rate increasing fast, we take these 30 days to celebrate the differences of, learn more about, and empower autistic individuals.
