Rosh Hashanah

Rosh Hashanah, literally meaning the “head of the year” is the Jewish New Year. It is a time of inner renewal and divine atonement. This year, Rosh Hashanah began at sundown on Friday, September 15. For those observing two days, it ended at sundown on Sunday, September 17.

One of the most popular Rosh Hashanah customs involves eating apple slices dipped in honey, sometimes after saying a special prayer. Ancient Jews believed apples had healing properties, and the honey signifies the hope that the new year will be sweet. Rosh Hashanah meals usually include an assortment of sweet treats for the same reason.

Yom Kippur

Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, is considered the most important holiday in the Jewish faith. Falling in the month of Tishrei (September or October in the Gregorian calendar), it marks the culmination of the 10 Days of Awe, a period of introspection and repentance that follows Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year.

According to tradition, it is on Yom Kippur that God decides each person’s fate, so Jews are encouraged to make amends and ask forgiveness for sins committed during the past year. The holiday is observed with a 25-hour fast and a special religious service. Yom Kippur and Rosh Hashanah are known as Judaism’s “High Holy Days.” Yom Kippur 2023 begins on the evening of Sunday, September 24 and ends on the evening of Monday, September 25.

Hispanic Heritage Month Spotlight:

Carin Luna-Ostaseski | SIA Whisky

Carin Luna-Ostaseski is one of the first Hispanic founders of a scotch whisky. Her journey as a first generation Cuban American challenged conventions every step of the way, and has inspired others to achieve the unexpected, a mantra that SIA Scotch Whisky now lives by.

In her mid-20s, Carin would not have considered herself a scotch whisky lover. But a friend encouraged her to try something new, and hosted a tasting for her, which changed her life. She then began a grand tour of her local spirits purveyor, sampling over 300 bottles of whiskies and scotches, and falling in love with the category, all while becoming a dedicated student of the spirit.

Carin started hosting tasting events to share her favorite blends with her friends and loved ones, and through this process she realized what the world was missing: an ultra-premium yet affordable and approachable scotch whisky, perfect for the connoisseurs as well as the curious. She wanted to change the way people thought about the category and challenge those old, stodgy conventions. What began as a casual pastime quickly became a life-altering passion.

SIA, carried by our Century Division, is an Award-Winning Whisky that awakens the nose with vanilla and caramel notes, then opens the palate with citrus and honey and a hint of soft smoke for a gentle warm finish. A blend of Speyside, Highland and Islay malt and grain whiskies.

Alamos Malbec

Celebrate Hispanic Heritage with Alamos Malbec!

From our adventurous high-elevation vineyards at the foot of the Andes, we craft flavorful, approachable, and authentically Argentine wines.

Joke of the Week

When do Baker's share their secret recipes?

On a knead to dough basis.

Animal Protection Center

This week, Martignetti employees volunteered at the Animal Protection Center (APC) in Brockton, MA. The APC is a 501(c)(3) education and outreach animal shelter serving Bristol, Norfolk, and Plymouth counties. Their mission is to operate an open admission animal care and adoption facility, with a focus on prevention of cruelty to animals, education, and outreach; while promoting inclusivity, acceptance, and equality.

Employees undertook a range of impactful projects at the APC, including repainting the habitat rooms, storage clean-out and re-organization of their supply rooms. Once the work was completed, employees had the opportunity to interact and play with the animals.

We would like to thank Sabrina Kimball, Holly Mohre, Kelly O'Connor, Elise Tringale, Theresa O'Connor, Cate Zielinski, Molly Lister, Trish Rowell, Elle Gill and Sean Donelly for donating their time to this amazing cause and all those who donated supplies.

Safety Committee

Our Safety Committee is underway and we’re having valuable safety discussions. Merchandiser and SR representation is vital to our success. The desired attendance from these groups would be (3) of each position. We meet for 30 minutes per month via Teams and live in Taunton. Let’s discuss the potential future incidents and solve for them before they occur. Hartley & Parker Sales Division

is featuring Grant Burge Barossa Ink Cabernet Sauvignon.

The story of Grant Burge is one of the past, the present, and the future.

Planting their roots in the Barossa Valley in 1865, the Burges began as a family of devoted vignerons. For five generations, they spent their days toiling on the land, understanding the soil, and from it, growing grapes that would become premium wines of today. At Grant Burge wines, we challenged ourselves to come up with the most vibrant and impactful wines possible. The result was Ink.

The Barossa Ink Cabernet Sauvignon shows a bouquet rich with blackcurrant, mint and dark chocolate. The textural palate has fine tannins, and excellent persistence with intense chocolate and berry flavours. A deeply coloured wine with great depth and varietal definition.

Hartley & Parker Sales Division

is also featuring Citadelle Gin de France.

Citadelle Gin welcomes you to Château de Bonbonnet in the southwest of France, where the magic happens!

In 1996, Cognac Ferrand's Master Blender, Alexandre Gabriel, had the idea to distill the essence of the region into one perfectly crisp spirit. Thus, the first artisanal gin was born, and it happened to be French!

The process starts with the star of the gin: juniper berries, which grow right in front of the Château. In addition to juniper berries, 18 other botanicals are progressively infused into a French wheat-based spirit for different lengths of proof and time to capture each's unique aromatic and flavor properties.

This “Gin de Château” is then distilled in small copper pot stills, resulting in the beautifully balanced distinguished profile of Citadelle Original gin: juniper-dominate with supporting citrus and exotic notes, all with a soft, elegant texture.

Winner of a trifecta at 2019's Ultimate Spirits Challenge:

CHAIRMAN’S TROPHY, TRIED-AND-TRUE AWARD, and GREAT VALUE.

“A Triple Award Winning gin, one that I personally consider to be one of the best 10 gins in the world.” - Paul Pacult, Spirit Journal

“It’s fantastic in classic cocktails.” - Millicia West, GQ
