Transition to Paylocity Learning
Martignetti Companies recognizes the importance of training and developing all employees. We transitioned our pre-recorded training platform from Knovio to the Paylocity Learning Module, effective July 2022. All recordings in Knovio have been exported and are being uploaded into Paylocity.

We have been using Paylocity Learning Module in a limited capacity over the past two years, so all employees have had some exposure to it.

Here are some training resources to help with the transition:

  • How to Take Training in Paylocity (All employees): Learning: Take training on the Go - 2 minutes
  • This training refers to Paylocity mobile, but the process is the same on a laptop/PC
  • The training also reviews how you can access content that hasn’t been assigned to you
  • Monitor Training Results (Managers) 4 minutes: Monitor Training Results - 4 minutes
  • Contact Human Resources for instructions and guidelines if you need to create new content to be uploaded.

Paylocity’s Learning Module provides many benefits, including but not limited to:

  • Employees automatically have access to Paylocity Learning on their first day of employment
  • All completed training modules become part of the employee record; managers have immediate access to view progress
  • The process of assigning and tracking the completion of training is simplified
  • Reporting is streamlined and transparent
  • The following enhancements will reduce the time spent creating new training and add value:
  • Each training can utilize different mediums, including PowerPoint, screen recordings, third-party links (i.e., ted talks or YouTube videos), documents to read/review, and assessments
  • Paylocity offers the ability to record a screen and demonstrate how to complete tasks
  • Instructor-Led training can be created and tracked in Paylocity. This will streamline the process for certifications and other company-wide initiatives
  • We now have unlimited access to the Training Catalog, which features 668 training modules. Paylocity regularly updates this content.
  • Most employees have already completed at least one training in Paylocity, so switching to this platform will not be a challenge from a user perspective

We have prioritized uploading content required for new hire onboarding. The managers responsible for each training are evaluating, re-recording when necessary, and uploading their content.

If you are looking for specific training that isn’t available, or if you have questions about Paylocity Learning, please contact Human Resources.

This Sunday Marks the Anniversary of Franklin
On July 31, 1968, a young, black man was reading the newspaper when he saw something that he had never seen before. With tears in his eyes, he started running and screaming throughout the house, calling for his mom. He would show his mom, and, she would gasp, seeing something she thought she would never see in her lifetime. Throughout the nation, there were similar reactions.

What they saw was Franklin Armstrong's first appearance on the iconic comic strip "Peanuts." Franklin would be 50 years old this year.

Franklin was "born" after a school teacher, Harriet Glickman, had written a letter to creator Charles M. Schulz after Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was shot to death outside his Memphis hotel room.

Glickman, who had kids of her own and having worked with kids, was especially aware of the power of comics among the young. “And my feeling at the time was that I realized that black kids and white kids never saw themselves [depicted] together in the classroom,” she would say.

She would write, “Since the death of Martin Luther King, 'I’ve been asking myself what I can do to help change those conditions in our society which led to the assassination and which contribute to the vast sea of misunderstanding, hate, fear and violence.'”

Glickman asked Schulz if he could consider adding a black character to his popular comic strip, which she hoped would bring the country together and show people of color that they are not excluded from American society.

She had written to others as well, but the others feared it was too soon, that it may be costly to their careers, that the syndicate would drop them if they dared do something like that.

Charles Schulz did not have to respond to her letter, he could have just completely ignored it, and everyone would have forgotten about it. But, Schulz did take the time to respond, saying he was intrigued with the idea, but wasn't sure whether it would be right, coming from him, he didn't want to make matters worse, he felt that it may sound condescending to people of color.

Glickman did not give up, and continued communicating with Schulz, with Schulz surprisingly responding each time. She would even have black friends write to Schulz and explain to him what it would mean to them and gave him some suggestions on how to introduce such a character without offending anyone. This conversation would continue until one day, Schulz would tell Glickman to check her newspaper on July 31, 1968.

On that date, the cartoon, as created by Schulz, shows Charlie Brown meeting a new character, named Franklin. Other than his color, Franklin was just an ordinary kid who befriends and helps Charlie Brown. Franklin also mentions that his father was "over at Vietnam." At the end of the series, which lasted three strips, Charlie invites Franklin to spend the night one day so they can continue their friendship.

There was no big announcement, there was no big deal, it was just a natural conversation between two kids, whose obvious differences did not matter to them. And, the fact that Franklin's father was fighting for this country was also a very strong statement by Schulz.

Although Schulz never made a big deal over the inclusion of Franklin, there were many fans, especially in the South, who were very upset by it and that made national news. One Southern editor even said, “I don’t mind you having a black character, but please don’t show them in school together.”

It would eventually lead to a conversation between Schulz and the president of the comic's distribution company, who was concerned about the introduction of Franklin and how it might affect Schulz' popularity. Many newspapers during that time had threatened to cut the strip.

Schulz' response: "I remember telling Larry at the time about Franklin -- he wanted me to change it, and we talked about it for a long while on the phone, and I finally sighed and said, "Well, Larry, let's put it this way: Either you print it just the way I draw it or I quit. How's that?"

Eventually, Franklin became a regular character in the comic strips, and, despite complaints, Franklin would be shown sitting in front of Peppermint Patty at school and playing center field on her baseball team.

More recently, Franklin is brought up on social media around Thanksgiving time, when the animated 1973 special "A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving" appears. Some people have blamed Schulz for showing Franklin sitting alone on the Thanksgiving table, while the other characters sit across him. But, Schulz did not have the same control over the animated cartoon on a television network. He did however have control over his own comic strip, and, he courageously decided to make a statement because of one brave school teacher who decided to ask a simple question.

Because of Glickman, because of Schulz, people around the world were introduced to a little boy named Franklin.

Harriet Glickman’s persistence was key in bringing about a change that would reverberate for years to come. It may seem like a small change to us looking back, but Shultz added Franklin to the “Peanuts” story line during a politically and racially turbulent era in our country. Just like Glickman, we must be persistent and courageous in our DE&I efforts to foster an equitable and inclusive work environment and workforce. It is through each decision that we make individually and collectively that we can continue progress and make a real difference in the world.

The Pale derives its name from Londoners calling for a fresh glass of Rosé

Sacha introduced new and innovative winemaking techniques to Provence which revolutionized the styles of Rosés being produced from this region. The Pale embodies all of the characteristics of an authentic Rosé from Provence. With its proprietary and artful bottle, The Pale will transport to the south of France.

United Sales Division is featuring Ron Matusalem Rum.
Ron Matusalem, a Spanish-style Rum, with a history that takes us back to 1872 Cuba. If it’s hard to imagine: It was at least 20-30 years before there was any talk of popular cocktails like the Daiquiri, Cuba Libre and Mojito. And by the time all American tourists were drinking these mixes, during the first half of the 20th Century, Matusalem was actually thé largest brand of Rum on the entire island, with a market share of over 50%!

Yet with the arrival of the Castro-age, the Alvarez family, responsible for Ron Matusalem, fled, and the Rum-production stopped until the brand was relaunched in the Dominican Republic several decades later, by the descendants of the original founders. And that’s where the Rum is currently being produced, even though they’re profiling themselves majorly as Cuban heritage, and with good reason, as production-secrets were passed on generation upon generation.

Matusalem comes in different expressions and varying ages Platino, Clasico, 15YR, 18YR and 23YR. The Gran Reserva 15, pictured here, is their popular mixing Rum boasting flavors of vanilla, dried drupes, cloves and slight hints of marmalade.
Today is World Hepatitis Day
World Hepatitis Day is recognized annually on July 28th (yesterday), the birthday of Dr. Baruch Blumberg (1925–2011). Dr. Blumberg discovered the hepatitis B virus in 1967, and 2 years later he developed the first hepatitis B vaccine. These achievements culminated in Dr. Blumberg winning the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1976. Organizations around the world, including the World Health Organization (WHO) and CDC, commemorate World Hepatitis Day to raise awareness about viral hepatitis, which impacts more than 354 million people worldwide.

What are the different types of hepatitis occurring around the world?

The five hepatitis viruses – hepatitis A, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, hepatitis D, and hepatitis E – are distinct and can spread in different ways, affect different populations, and result in different health outcomes.
