Safe Winter Driving

Stay safe this winter holiday season by planning ahead and making good choices while traveling. When preparing to travel, be aware of current and forecasted weather conditions.

Winter Driving Safety Tips:

  • Speed limits are based on normal road conditions so reduce your speed when there is ice or snow.
  • Stay at least 200 feet back if you are behind a snowplow.
  • Bridges, ramps, and overpasses freeze first, so use extreme caution.
  • Know how to safely maneuver a vehicle if skidding on ice occurs.
  • Maintain at least three times the normal following distance when driving on snow and ice.
  • Be aware of 'black ice' which is a nearly invisible layer of ice that can develop on roads and cause a driver to rapidly lose control. Black ice is especially common at night.

Remember the three P's of Safe Winter Driving:

  • PREPARE for the trip
  • PROTECT yourself
  • PREVENT crashes

Allow extra time to reach your destination without feeling anxious or stressed because weather or traffic conditions may slow you down. Be safe, be well!

Holidays: Religion and Culture

With the holiday season in full swing, it's important to remember that our holidays and celebrations typically come from religious practices. It’s a good time to reflect and learn a little more about Religion and Culture.

Holiday Spotlight: Hanukkah / Chanukah

Also called the Festival of Lights, Hanukkah celebrates events from more than 2,000 years ago. First and foremost, it commemorates the rededication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem after a successful revolt of the Jewish people led by Judah Maccabee against their Syrian-Greek oppressors, who had tried to assimilate the Jewish people and, in so doing, had desecrated the Temple. The reason the holiday is celebrated for eight days stems from what is told in the Talmud: when it came time for the rededication of the Second Temple, only one day’s worth of pure oil was found to use in the temple’s menorah—which was meant to burn all night every night—but miraculously the oil burned for eight days. This gave enough time to collect a fresh supply of oil and, with the belief that a miracle from God had occurred, a reason to celebrate for a full eight days.

Martignetti Companies Fall Internship Program Recap

This fall the company welcomed three college students, from three different schools, into our newly established Internship Program. Erika Alcantara, Marketing Intern, came from Mass Art, Jillian Caruso, Sales Intern, came from UMass Lowell and Sam Petow, Sales Intern, came from Bentley. The 12 week/15 hour fall semester internship included two sales and one graphic arts working side by side with their peers with the goal to gain a deeper understanding of our company, industry and potential future employment opportunities.

The weeks went by quickly and with the help of all divisions and departments, we provided an enriching program to which they are excited to share back at campus with peers and professors. Monday through Thursday were dedicated to department focused work and execution. Fridays wrapped up the week in Taunton in an immersed training routine inclusive of; attending General Sales Meetings, Weekly Recaps, Sales Process & Technology Training by various guest presenters and progressed through the Wine & Spirits 101 course. Finally the program concluded with each intern presenting a Capstone Presentation to Leadership that showcased their individual learnings, experiences and insights about the industry and our company.

We are proud to offer such an enriching program that will generate awareness and exposure of our company to future employees and strengthen our commitment to best in class. We will stay in touch with our interns as they continue their college careers and begin navigating their first employment opportunity.

December is National Safe Toys and Gifts Month

In recent years, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has created a robust toy safety system, by requiring testing by independent, third party testing laboratories around the world; enforcing stringent lead and phthalates limits for toys; imposing some of the most stringent toy standards in the world; and stopping violative and dangerous toys at the ports and in the marketplace before they reach children’s hands. These combined efforts continue to foster the confidence of American families as they prepare to shop for toys this holiday season.

Safety tips to keep in mind this holiday season:

Balloons

Children can choke or suffocate on deflated or broken balloons. Keep deflated balloons away from children younger than eight years old. Discard broken balloons immediately.

Small balls and other toys with small parts

For children younger than age three, avoid toys with small parts, which can cause choking.

Scooters and other riding toys

Riding toys, skateboards and in-line skates go fast, and falls could be deadly. Helmets and safety gear should be worn properly at all times and they should be sized to fit.

Magnets

Whether marketed for children or adults, building and play sets with small magnets should also be kept away from small children.

Once gifts are open:

Immediately discard plastic wrapping or other toy packaging before the wrapping and packaging become dangerous play things.

Keep toys appropriate for older children away from younger siblings.

Battery charging should be supervised by adults. Chargers and adapters can pose thermal burn hazards to young children. Pay attention to instructions and warnings on battery chargers. Some chargers lack any mechanism to prevent overcharging.
